This was a bad idea.  A terrible idea.  The broken ice-maker was probably the universe’s way of trying to drive that point home, but thankfully (or perhaps, unfortunately), you were resourceful.

Out of all the things you could have been doing at 6 AM on a Saturday morning, messing with Katsuki Bakugo was probably the absolute dumbest–it was also the most likely to lead to irreparable bodily harm.  Only the truly stupid would even think to try it.  But, as a great philosopher (that you’re at least 20 percent sure you didn’t make up) once said: Stupidity becomes bravery the moment you give it a cause.  Bravery was something you were supposed to exhibit as a hero, so the way you saw it, what you were doing was another part of your training.

“How long do we have?”  You’re careful to keep your voice low.

Todoroki doesn’t respond and you peer back over your shoulder at him, expecting to see some sort of solemn or annoyed expression painted across his face.  That’s not the case.  In fact, you’re convinced he hasn’t even heard you; He yawns, eyes drifting shut, and for a second, you’re afraid he’s about to fall asleep standing up.  On a normal day, you might’ve found his drowsiness hilarious–a welcome change from his usual stoic demeanor–but today you needed him awake and alert.

Katsuki comes home earlier then he was meant to and sees something he had never had the pleasure of witnessing for himself. He knew Shoto could be like this sometimes but knowing it and seeing it are two very different things.

Happy New Year!!!!

As the first chime of the bells rang out through the night air Katsuki and Shoto came to a stop, the two of them turning to face the way the sound had come from even though they had no chance of seeing the distant temple. That was it then, once the final bell rang the year would be over and another one would start. Shit he hoped it wasn’t like the last one. Hoped that everything could just be normal for once but knowing their luck it never would be.

The bells continued to chime, each one counting down towards midnight and despite knowing it made no difference Katsuki still held his breath like he was waiting for something to happen. Next to him Shoto stepped in closer, grabbing his hand and lacing their fingers together. Despite being in his winter costume Katsuki was still colder than he liked and he appreciated the other man pressing his left side up against him, letting his own warmth seep in through the fabric of Katsuki’s costume. The streets were empty, no one really hanging around the back alleys this time of night so there was no one to see the uncharacteristic moment of tenderness between the hero duo. Not that Katsuki would care if there was, it was just none of their business is all. It was called a private life for a reason and he didn’t want to shared these kind of moments with any dammed nosy extras.

Over all the last year hadn’t been all that bad. Sure it had started of kind of rocky and had gotten even worse when the rather unusual relationship the three of the shares had been publicly outed but that was all in the past now or would be in another minute. The reaction hadn’t been as bad as any of them had thought and they had come out the other side stronger then ever, though he and Shoto had practically had to drag Y/N along with them when she repeatedly tried to break things off. It had all worked out in the end though. They were a hot commodity now, people clambering for anything to do with the three of them and though it could be stressful at times Katsuki would take the freedom of being able to kiss Y/N whenever he wanted over having to second guess every action he took where she and Shoto were concerned.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Katsuki’s not really a winter person. He hates the cold, the long dark days and not to mention the snow and rain that seems to come down in icy sheets and managed to leave him shivering even in his winter costume. So no, he’s not a fan of winter and by extension he’s not a Christmas person either. Personally he thinks it over rated and over commercialised. It’s just another excuse of companies to make money and people to make idiots of themselves as they congregate in streets lit with so many fairy lights it’s probably noticeable in space or huddle around massive trees to take photos with all their idiot friend like they’ve never seen one before. It annoys him, especially when he gets stopped on patrol and people try and convince him to take a photo with them in front of one, an experience made even worse if someone tries to get him to wear a Christmas hat.

So naturally he would be dating two people who actually like the blasted holiday.

Okay so maybe Shoto doesn’t like it but Y/N does and thats enough for him to be following her around as she throws up decorations and sings Christmas songs from the 80s that Katsuki wished would just die out already. Katsuki would like to say it’s cute. He would like to say that the thought of coming home and smelling all those freshly baked cakes and biscuits that Y/N makes is amazing but it’s really not. The songs get on his nerves after the first couple of days and he puts on at least ten pounds over the two weeks before and after Christmas Day. Not to mention the pointless garlands and decorations that go up around the apartment, or the fact that Y/N and Shoto make him get the blasted tree out even though they are perfectly capable of doing it themselves.

Katsuki hates it but he can’t exactly say that. He understands that this shit means something to Y/N and he wants her to be happy so he bites his tongue when he hears last Christmas for the fifth time in as many days and makes sure to try everything she bakes because the way she smiles at him when he does so is worth the stomachache. It’s not like the foods terrible, it’s not. She’s a good cook and everything tastes amazing and Katsuki does like it, there’s just so much of it that buy the time January rolls around just the smell of baked goods is enough to have his stomach groaning and sending him running to the gym.

For once he’s grateful they all have a lot of friends because they are all happy to be the recipients of gingerbread, stollen, pryaniki or whatever else Y/N decides to make, saving Katsuki and Shoto from the horror of having to eat it all themselves. Dunce face always whines about how lucky Katsuki is, having someone who spoils him so much and Katsuki always shove’s another cookie or slice of cake in his mouth, telling him to “shut up and keep eating because you ain’t going to feel so bloody lucky after you’ve eaten another thirty.”

Katsuki is lucky though. He knows that. He knows that most people with an attitude like him would struggle to find someone to put up with him let alone two people. So Katsuki keeps his mouth shut and lets Y/N and Shoto cuddle up to him under thick blankets whilst they watch cheesy Christmas movies and drink spiked hot chocolate. He doesn’t complain when Shoto drags him out shopping, determined to find the perfect gift for Y/N, nor when she does the same thing but for Shoto. They’re happy so Katsuki’s happy and he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Life goes on but something changes over the years and at some point Katsuki actually begins to look forward to the day he comes home and finds a batch of spiced cookies waiting for him along with his tinsel wrapped idiots as they try and decide what colour to go with that year. It’s always gold, red and green. They’re the only colour decorations they have but from listening to them two go on it was as if they had every colour you could ever imagine available to pick from. He supposed they probably did, both him and Shoto more than willing to traipse around shops looking for decorations if Y/N actually decided she wanted a different colour. Sure Katsuki would complain but he would still do it, just to see her smile when present with the new ornaments.

He’s the one who starts suggesting movies the three of them can watch, knowing what one’s they both like best and what ones he can tolerate. Shoto still asks way to many questions and Y/N still answers with the patience of a saint whilst Katsuki makes sarcastic comments and predicts the ending before they are even half way through the movie. He takes cakes and cookies with him to the agency, refusing to share with anyone who isn’t Shoto. He even buys hand painted ornaments for the tree that are made to look like their hero outfits. He has to suffer through the vendor taking a photo of him with them and seeing it plastered all over social media but the way Y/Ns face lights up with her smile when he hands them over more than makes up for that. Every year after that they take pride of place, the three little bulbuls hung in a row right in the middle of the tree for everyone to see. Surprisingly Katsuki doesn’t hate it.

It only gets worse when the boys come along.

They were so fascinated by the lights and decorations when they were babies and Katsuki is sure he will never be able to forget the image of Shoto stood by the tree, mumbling softly to the little form of Kasui cradled in his arms as he held him up to the tree to see all the lights twinkling like stars. Suddenly coming home to a house smelling of cookies turned into the smell of cookies and the sound of laughter and something Katsuki longs for. Y/N, Kasui and Reo always end up covered in flour and icing, the three of them grinning like idiots as Katsuki and Shoto are presented with a plate of misshapen cookies that probably once looked like a Christmas tree but now look like a fat hedgehog. He still always takes one though, eating it there and then and declaring them the best yet even if one of their delightful children had managed to swap out the sugar for salt when Y/N wasn’t looking. That year the cookies get hung on the tree and Katsuki purposely keeps his mouth shut when soy sauce and dunce face steal one off the branches when they think no one’s looking. The look of horror and betrayal on their faces is worth the disapproving glair for Y/N and the exasperated way Shoto said his name even as Katsuki doubled over with how hard he’s laughing.

The tree becomes a family things, the boys wanting to help as soon as they were able to. It becomes more of an event. Christmas music goes on and hot chocolates made as well as a plate of cookies out for everyone to pick at. Katsuki still doesn’t really have much of anything to do with the tree, normally cooking dinner whilst the other four discus what pattern the decorations should go in. Katsuki doesn’t mind. He likes watching his family in moments like that. Like seeing Shoto lift up Kasui and Reo so they can place little glass bulbuls on the top parts of the tree, Y/N sat on the floor and teasing the cat with bits of tinsel that never actually seem to end up on the tree. It looks like a scene out of one of those sappy holiday movies and he can’t help but snap a photo, sending it to the old hag and Shoto’s sister because they always like to coo over that sentimental and domestic shit.

When they are done though and before the lights get switched on Katsuki is pulled away from the kitchen, the tree topper pressed into his hands because “it’s not a family tree if daddy doesn’t do something.” That becomes his job, the one thing he has to do with that ridiculous tree other than pulling it out of storage and though he grumbled and moans about it, letting Reo whine and Kasui get all huffy when they think he’s not going to do it, he always takes the glass star from Y/N, placing it delicately atop the tree. There’s a moment where the only light in the room is the soft golden twinkle of the lights on the tree and he’s stood there with one of the boy in his arms, Shoto next to him with the other clinging on to him with Y/N stood between them that Katsuki understands what people mean when they say having a family is a gift because he feels like he’s been given the best thing in the world. What they have might be strange and a little chaotic sometimes but he wouldn’t change it for anything in the world and that includes the number one spot.

Katsuki becomes one of those people he used to complain about, taking the boys to see the lights and various trees dotted around the city, enjoying their excitement right up until they are to old to be going out with their parents. Kasui’s the one who decides he’s to old for that kind of stuff first and as he and his brother are pretty much inseparable it doesn’t take much longer for Reo to decide he’s to old as well, though he’s a bit more reluctant about it. Katsuki doesn’t sulk the first year they don’t go out to see all the lights despite what Y/N says but it is when he realises that they aren’t kids any more and the things that had used to be important to them won’t carry on that way. It terrifies him. They’re growing up to fast and a part of him misses those two little boys who used to stare in wide eyed wonder at the world around them as they clung on to Katsuki with those small and chubby hands.

Some things don’t change though. Like Y/Ns constant baking over the holiday period. Kasui and Reo still help with that but Katsuki thinks it’s more to do with wanting to eat the cookies then anything else. Unlike Shoto, Reo is part way useful in the kitchen though his talents only seem go as far as patisserie, the relentless sweet tooth he had inherited from Y/N going a long way to help with that. Kasui takes after Katsuki though, able to cook a whole family meal by the time he’s twelve. Normally it’s Kasui bossing Reo around in the kitchen, much like Katsuki does with Shoto but in those few weeks every year the tables turn and Reo is the one who runs the kitchen and the ever growing cookie factory their home seems to turn into. Poor Ichika probably gets her body weight in sweet treats but she never complains, always full of bright smiles like Deku as she thanks the blushing boy for the gifts. Not that Kasui was any better, going as red as Eijiro’s hair whenever he handed over anything he had made to Tenko. The smug little zombie wasn’t as sweet as Ichika though, always smirking lazily and teasing the brat about all the time and effort he had put into making the cookies, always chocolate matcha ones shaped like cats wearing Christmas hats.

Life moved forward. The boys get older, start forging their own paths in the world but still every year they come and decorate the tree, stuffing their faces with sweet treats and bickering about where those stupid ornaments that Katsuki got all those years ago should go. Shoto doesn’t have to lift them up now, instead the four of them working together and still it’s Katsuki who puts up the star right at the end. He still comes home to Y/N and the boys in the kitchen baking, though normally it’s her and Reo actually doing the work whist Kasui sits on the counter whilst trying to interfere before getting his hand slapped away by his brother and a cookie shoved in his face to keep him quiet.

Eventually they stop coming to decorate the tree though and all three of them feel their absence that first year but the baking remains a tradition. Even when they’re older and have families of their own they still find a day to huddle into the kitchen, making a mess of Katsuki’s space and filling there home with laughter. Even when they finally retire and move out to the suburbs to a small house with a garden for the grand kids to run around in. Katsuki forgets how much he hated this time of year back when he was younger and the three of them were just finding their feet. Now he looks forward to it. To the smell of freshly backed fruit cake and spiced cookies. To the sound of laughter as Kasui and Reo lift their own children up to look at the very same lights they had been fascinated by as kids.

It’s a stupid time of year, over rated and over commercialised but Katsuki wouldn’t change anything about it. Not the cheesy Christmas songs Y/N still sings along to or the equally awful movies Shoto still gets them to watch, nor the ten pounds of food he puts on. His family is happy and so is he and that’s all that matters in the end.

Part of the twos company, threes a crowdseries

Katsuki lost track of time easily, losing himself in the moment. They watched one Christmas movie after another, the three of them lounging over the sofa and tangled together. Katsuki complained about the rubbish and predictable plots whilst Todoroki constantly questioned why things were happening and Y/N would patiently explain it to him whilst Katsuki made sarcastic comments, though her answers often ended up being ‘because Christmas’ or ‘magic’ witch seemed to be the running theme across all of the movies. Though romance was also another annoyingly persistent aspect and wasn’t doing anything to help with Katsuki’s nerves over asking Y/N out.

They continued to eat the things he and the candy cane had brought, cookies getting snapped in half to share and the mochi getting bitten in half though thankfully there was no more embarrassing finger sucking. At one point the half ‘n’ half bastard had tried to feed him though and Katsuki had retaliated by trying to bite his fucking fingers off. They drank more hot chocolate and then when that was gone they started on the tea that Todoroki had brought, the stuff as annoyingly good as the mochi had been.

It was annoyingly nice, the three of them talking and laughing about random stuff that normally Katsuki wouldn’t really care about. He didn’t complain about all the unhealthy snacks they were eating either, stating he would get in an extra-long workout the next day when Y/N teased him about it and when Todoroki actually had the gall to laugh Katsuki had made it very clear that Todoroki would be joining him at seven am for a five mile run whether he liked it or not. Y/N promised him she would hit the gym before he got the chance to invite her along as well, telling them in detail what her work out routine would be so he had bitten his tongue so he wouldn’t try and persuade her to come along when clearly she didn’t want to. Katsuki didn’t blame her, it was going to be fucking freezing and though he was regretting his rushed declaration he wouldn’t take it back. He would just have to wear a couple of extra layers and run faster.

Katsuki didn’t really notice it starting to get darker, not until his phone dinged with a text from the old hag demanding to know if he was coming home for dinner or if things were going that well he would be out all night. He told her in no uncertain terms to leave him alone and that he would sort his own food out when he got home, not that he knew when that would be. He had hoped she would leave it at that but of course he wasn’t that lucky, the old hag texting back and telling him to use protection because she was too young to become a grandmother. Katsuki had gone bright red at that, his entire body feeling like he had been set on fire as it went still. Of course this had gotten Y/Ns attention and when he refused to tell her what had been said Y/N had tried to take his phone, clambering over him to try and get it. They had fought for it and somehow Y/N had ended up pinned beneath him on the sofa, half sprawled across Todoroki and her legs spread to accommodate Katsuki between them. He had been all smug about winning until Y/N had moved and he realised the position they were in. He had panicked, scrambling to get off the sofa and away from Y/N, claiming he needed to piss as he practically ran from the room.

It was where he was now, fucking hiding in the dorms bathrooms as he tried to calm the fuck down. He splashed cold water over his face, hoping it would help his face cool down. Shit he needed to get a grip before he fucked everything up. Trust the fucking hag to screw up his day. He had been doing just fine and now she had gone and put ideas in his head that he didn’t sodding want there, not right now any way. He liked Y/N, wanted to date her so yeah he had thought about that but now wasn’t the time for that. If he was lucky that would come latter but first he needed to actually get the damned girl to date him and he couldn’t have things like that distracting him.

Grabbing at a towel he angrily dried his face. He could do this. He just had to go back down there, pull her to one side and say thanks for the gift and then ask her to come to the stupid New Year’s fireworks with him, just him. He could do that, of course he could. He was Bakugou fucking Katsuki and he could do fucking anything. With his confidence restored and a plan of action in place Katsuki made his way back down stairs expecting to find the other two in a similar position as they had been before Y/N had tried to get his phone but of course he wouldn’t be that lucky.

Stepping back into the room he found Y/N sat in the middle of the sofa, seemingly on her own. As he got closer though he found Todoroki on the floor between her legs, Y/N stroking and played with his hair. She did that a lot and the bastard seemed to like it, always ending up with a content little smile on his lips. It always made Katsuki think of a cat, especially with his aloof personality but if he started to fucking purr Katsuki was going to slap him. Y/N turned to smile up at him shuffling forwards until she was sat on the edge of the sofa and gave him an expectant look before turning her attention back to the film currently playing. Katsuki glanced at the space, knowing what she wanted but unsure if he should. His plan was slowly crumbling and he was at a loss at what to do now.

Fuck it. He should take the opportunity whilst it was there, act like the couple he wanted them to be even if the shitty candy cane was there. He still had time. Just because he couldn’t ask now didn’t mean he wouldn’t find an opportunity to do it latter. He climbed over the back of the sofa, dropping down behind her and spreading his legs wide around her hips. He wrapped his arms around her stomach and pulled her tight against him, hooking his chin over her shoulder and looked down at her hands as she ran them through Todoroki’s hair. It looked soft and for a brief moment Katsuki thought about reaching his own hand out to see if it was but he quickly shut that idea down.

On screen a couple were stood outside in the snow, declaring their love for one another after all the utter bullshit they had just put the other through and Katsuki scoffed as the man dug in his pocket for a present, probably some sort of call back to a throwaway line earlier in the film that he hadn’t really been paying attention to, having given up once it became clear that they were using the shitty rivals to lovers troupe. “Why is he giving her an orange?” Todoroki said flatly, tipping his head to the side and even though Katsuki couldn’t see his face he knew his brows would be furrowed in confusion and a little frown tugging at his lips. “Because it’s a Christmas tradition” Y/N laughed, the action jostling Katsuki and he huffed at the disturbance, digging his chin into her shoulder to keep her still.

The shitty candy cane tipped his head back so he could look up at Y/N, his eyes calculating and brows furrowed. “Would you like it if I gave you an orange?” Katsuki looked down at the idiot in disbelief, mumbling “what the fuck is wrong with you” at his clearly serious question. An orange, why the fuck would Y/N want an orange? Y/Ns hands had stilled where she had been pushing the other teens hair away from his face, an amused smile in her lips. “Sure, why not. Just the one though”. She held up one finger to emphasise the point before tapping Todoroki on the nose with it, the mismatched boy wrinkling his nose up at the action. She would probably come to regret those words, the idiot probably giving her one orange every day for the rest of her life now.

The talk of traditions had Katsuki thinking though. Christmas wasn’t that big of a deal out in Japan, sure they celebrated it but not to the extent as they did in other parts of the world. Surely Y/N must have traditions of her own, things that her and her old man would always do this time of year but she hadn’t mentioned anything, hadn’t really mentioned anything about what Christmas was for her, always keeping quite when it had been brought up and giving vague answers when asked directly. From how they had found her it was clear to see that she hadn’t really had any plans for the day apart from eating crap food and watching even crappier films but surely that couldn’t be what she would normally have done? “Do you have any traditions?” Katsuki grumbled, turning his head slightly so he could look at her.

“Hum?” Y/N didn’t even glance at him, her attention completely on the shitty candy cane as she smiled softly down at him and continued to run her hands though his hair, pushing it away from his face and rubbing her fingers into his temple, effectively giving him a head massage. Scowling Katsuki sat up straighter, lifting his head up so he could actually turn his head to look at her properly. “Christmas traditions, do you have any?” he growled, a slight edge to his voice that he refused to believe was annoyance at being ignore for the other teen.

Y/Ns hands stilled, her body going tense in Katsuki’s arms and the smile falling from her face. It was an odd reaction to have to a simple question and Katsuki was suddenly suspicious. “Erm no, not really” Y/N said dismissively as she went back to stroking the idiots hair, her eyes staying focused on her task and refusing to meet Katsuki’s gaze. Her body stayed stiff against him though, her smile never returning and despite knowing better Katsuki pressed for more information, wanting to get to the bottom of her sudden odd behaviour. “Isn’t Christmas supposed to be a big thing and all that out in Europe? Didn’t you and your family ever do anything?”

Todoroki was watching her now as well, his mismatched eyes cold and calculating and Katsuki knew he had felt it to, the sudden shift in the atmosphere. It was like she was waiting for the axe to drop, like the calm before a storm that you knew would leave your life devastated. “Well yeah but I didn’t, I wasn’t, my life’s not…” Y/N trailed off into a frustrated groan, clearly unable to find the right words. Sighing she tipped her head forward, one of her hands coming up to rub at her temples. It was only supposed to be a simple question, Katsuki hadn’t expected it to get the reaction it had but clearly he had said something wrong. He felt bad about pushing, at being the reason Y/N suddenly seemed so stressed and tense. Shit he never learned when to keep his mouth shut and yet again he had gone and ruined what had been a great fucking day by letting his mouth run.

With another sigh Y/N went lax, slumping back to lean into Katsuki. He grunted in surprise at her sudden weight on him, his arms instinctively wrapping around her tighter. The hand that had been rubbing at her eyes fell to his arm and she slid her hand over his, lacing their fingers together and trapping his hand between hers and her stomach. Katsuki didn’t know what to do, his neck stretched out to keep his head away from her. He hadn’t been expecting the sudden movement, to end up with her back pressed completely against his front and her ass pressing against his groin. She seemed to have melted against him, her head resting on his shoulder and eyes still closed. With a sigh of his own Katsuki gave in, resting his chin on her shoulder once more.

On the floor Todoroki shifted, turning more to the side and resting his head on her knee, his head tilted up to look at her with the same concern that Katsuki was sure was on his own face. Y/N didn’t open her eyes as she lifted the hand that wasn’t clinging to Katsuki’s, her fingers sliding into Todoroki’s hair and pushing the strands away from his face. The three of them stayed that way for a few long minutes, Y/N never opening her eyes and a small frown on her lips. Katsuki felt useless, unsure what he had done wrong and not knowing how to fix it. He was just curious, desperate to know everything he could about Y/N because despite the months he had known her and how close they had gotten she didn’t really share much about her life before she came to U.A and when she did offer up bits of information it was always vague and left Katsuki feeling like he hadn’t gotten the whole truth from her.

Y/N huffed, her eyelashes fluttering open. She stared straight ahead, a resigned look in her eyes. “When I was younger we used to go out to Lake Baikal for a month over Christmas and New Year’s. We owned a cabin up in the mountains and it would just be me and my father. We would go skiing and ice skating down on the lake and in the evenings we would lay in front of the fire and play games or tell stories”. Her voice held a strange mix of happiness and mourning, like how Katsuki imagined people would talk about dead loved ones when they reminisce about the happy times they had shared together. She had a faraway look in her eyes and he knew that in her mind she was back in those moments, remembering happier times.

“Sounds nice” Todoroki said flatly and Y/N tilted her head down to look at the other teen with a sad smile. “It was. The whole back wall of the cabin was glass and we would always go out into the forest on our first day there and cut down a tree and set it by the window. He would make hot chocolate and then we would spend the day decorating it. There was always something so magical about turning the lights on and watching them twinkle and bounce off the glass whilst a snow storm raged just outside but I suppose all good things must come to an end”. Katsuki held her closer, pressing his face into her shoulder as he let her words wash over him.

He could imagine it, a younger Y/N all bright eyed and full of wonder as an older, faceless guy with the same colour hair as her lifted her up into his arms as they stood and watched the lights on the tree twinkle with cups of hot chocolate in hand. It sounded like a nice memory and it was no wonder she cherished those moments but from the way she spoke something had changed and whatever relationship she had had with her old man was now just something she looked back on with a sense of loss and longing. Katsuki wanted to give her that feeling of wonder again, wanted to take away the sadness he could see creeping in and make her laugh.

On the screen a couple were stood arguing in front of a packed ice rink, the women crying as the man walked away but Katsuki wasn’t paying too much attention to what was going on, his eyes fixed on the background and suddenly he had an idea of how to fix the mood he had broken by opening his stupid mouth. “Go get dressed” he growled out as he slipped his hand out from under hers and tried to untangle himself from her. “I’m sorry, what?” Y/N said turning her head and pulling back to look at Katsuki with a mix of confusion and disbelief. Huffing he kicked at the shitty candy cane, digging his toes into his side as Katsuki tried to get him up and moving but all it seemed to accomplish was getting the other teen to glare at him. “I said go get dressed and make sure you put something warm on, I’m not being held responsible if your stupid ass freezes” he growled as he resorted to leaning around Y/N and shoving at Todoroki’s head and shoulders and finally with a grunt the idiot was moving, standing up and glaring down at Katsuki in annoyance.

Katsuki could see he was about to start bitching but he didn’t give him a chance, grabbing Y/Ns waste and practically picking her up as he stood and placing her onto her feet. “Hurry up we ain’t got all night” he grumbled, shoving her none to gently towards the stairs. She looked over her shoulder at him and he could see the annoyance in her eyes at being pushed around but she didn’t try to stop him and he knew she could if it was really pissing her off. “Fine just stop with the shoving” she grumbled and instantly he stopped, his hands falling to his sides. Huffing she turned to him, crossing her arms over her chest and frowned up at him. Katsuki mimicked her, pulling himself to his full height as he looked at her expectantly. She glared back at him but gave up quickly, huffing in annoyance before she spun on her heels and stormed of, muttering to herself and probably curse Katsuki to hell and back. That was fine, he would live and now she was gone he could put his plan into motion.

“What are you up to?” Todoroki demand and Katsuki spun back round to glare at the other teen. “Shut up” he growled out as he stalked back over to him, grabbing a fistful of his stupid turtleneck and yanked him towards him. The idiot didn’t even flinch, not even bothering to use his quirks to get Katsuki off of him. No, he just raised an eyebrow at him in question and let himself be man handled. “You are going to do exactly as I say, got it?” Katsuki growled out, hating that he had to look up slightly. Todoroki sighed, giving Katsuki a bored look but he didn’t protest. Satisfied that the bastard would listen to him Katsuki leaned in, whispering his plan in the other teen’s ear because he wouldn’t put it past Y/N to be lurking around the corner, trying to listen in.

He didn’t miss the way Todoroki stiffened then shivered when Katsuki’s hot breath puffed out against his right ear as he growled out his demands. As he pulled back he couldn’t help but blow in his ear, a big puff that had the other teen jerking back. He scowled at Katsuki as he rubbed at his ear but it only made Katsuki laugh harder. With a put upon sigh the bastard tugged Katsuki’s had free of his jumper and headed towards the door, silently putting on his boots and jacket before heading outside to do as Katsuki had asked.

Now alone Katsuki managed to get his laughter under control, taking a deep breath and looking round the room at the mess they had made. Deciding it was better than just standing there Katsuki started to tidy, clearing away rubbish and dirty cups, washing everything up and drying it before putting it away. It kept him busy and kept his mind off the inevitable freak out he would probably have if he actually thought about what he and the candy cane were up to. Fuck he hoped she liked it and it didn’t make her sad and cry. He could deal with the melancholy look but not tears, he wouldn’t have a fucking clue what to do if she cried.

The lift doors pinged as Katsuki put the last saucepan away and his head snapped up and round just as the doors slid open and Y/N stepped out. She had ditched everything she had been wearing, now in a pair of black jeans and Katsuki’s crimson hoodie, her leather jacket thrown over it and her signature boots on. He could see that she had left the red and gold improvised choker on, the sparkling fabric just visible above his hoodie and he couldn’t help but remember how her skin had felt there. He would be thinking about that latter, he was sure of it. Playing the moment over in his head but the shitty candy cane wouldn’t be there and he would have had the balls to lean down and press his lips against her neck.

“Alright blondie I’m dressed, now what?” Y/Ns agitated words pulled Katsuki out of his fantasy before he could get too sucked in. She didn’t look that impressed that she had been made to put actual clothes on instead of his underwear and the bastard’s cardigan but she would get over it, hopefully. Katsuki huffed, rolling his eyes at her as he trudged over to the doors and started to pull his many layers back on. “Defeats the point of it being a surprise if I told you” he grumbled, bending down to shove his boots on. Fuck he hoped she liked it and he hadn’t just completely misread the situation.

Katsuki jerked back up as he felt arms wrapping around his middle, Y/N pressing against his back. “I thought you and Shoto were my surprise” she murmured into his ear and he knew she hand to be stood on her toes to reach despite the extra height her boots gave her. Nervously he licked at his lips, glancing out the window to see what the half ‘n’ half bastard was up to but he was nowhere to be seen. This was it, his chance to ask her. There was no one else around to see if he got turned down or if she said yes and he broke out into a stupidly wide smile. Shit, she was even stood behind him so he wouldn’t have to look at her face, waiting for a reaction as he asked.

Taking a deep breath Katsuki steadied his nerves, the words on the tip of his tongue. “Would you…” A flash of red and white went past the window and Katsuki tracked the movement with narrowed eyes. “What’s Shoto doing?” Y/N asked curiously and the moment was lost. She was gone before Katsuki could stop her, shouldering the door open and stepping out into the cold. Groaning Katsuki trudged after her, scowling down at his feet and cursing the half ‘n’ half bastard’s existence. Katsuki should have known the asshole would managed to fuck it all up somehow.

It was fucking freezing outside, his teeth starting to chatter almost instantly. Grumbling he pulled his coat tighter around him, buttoning it up and shoving his gloved hands into his pockets. Y/N better dammed well appreciate what he was putting himself though for her because he sure as hell wouldn’t do this for just anyone. A loud gasp had Katsuki jerking his head up from where he had been glaring at his feet in hopes that he would see any possible bits of ice he could slip on. Y/N was stood at the bottom of the steps, both her hands pressed over her mouth and eyes wide as she stared out across the smooth sheet of ice before her.

Katsuki was begrudged to admit it but the bastard had done a pretty decent job recreating an ice rink, even if it was fucking massive and taking up nearly the whole fucking space in front of the dorm building. The ice looked smooth and shiny in the dimming light, the sun almost all the way down and the floodlights starting to come on. The rink had thick ice walls as well that came up to about waist height but he had left a gap in front of the stairs so you could easily get on and off of it. This was where the smug looking bastard stood, smiling ever so slightly as he took Y/Ns hand and helped her up onto the ice wall so she could sit with her legs dangling over the side.

“You didn’t fucking listen” Katsuki grumbled, coming to a stop next to them just as the shitty candy cane sank to his knees before Y/N. “You asked for an ice rink” he said flatly, lifting one of Y/Ns booted feet into his lap. Ice spread out from his fingers, covering her foot and spreading out from her sole and forming a gleaming and delicate looking blade. Before Y/N Katsuki had never seen the other teen do anything even remotely as fiddly and precise as making skates but the girl had an understanding of their quirks that allowed her to see its full potential and after gentle prodding she had gotten the bastard to start actually forming things white his ice instead of just sending out massive shards.

“I said a small ice rink” Katsuki snarled, crossing his arms over his chest and shoving his cold hands under his arms as he glared down at the mismatched hero. The bastard rolled his eyes as he gently let Y/Ns foot go and picked up the other to do the same. “This is small”. Katsuki looked at the teen in stunned silence, blinking dumbly down at him before he slowly lifted his head to look out across the frankly massive sheet of ice they stood next to. “What the fuck kind of ice rinks have you been to?” Katsuki barking, turning towards the aforementioned ice rink and gesturing towards the damned thing.

The shitty candy cane huffed as he stood up, annoyance clear on his otherwise blank face. “It’s perfect” Y/N said happily, stopping whatever pointless argument he and Todoroki were probably about to get into. She smiled brightly up at them, swinging her legs gently as she leaned back on her hands. She looked happy, the sadness from before gone and Katsuki couldn’t help the swell of smug pride he felt at being part of the reason.

Y/N unceremoniously swung her legs round and pushed off the wall. Katsuki had a moment of panic that the ice blades wouldn’t hold up and she would go crashing to ice with a cry of pain but all that happened was she wobbled slightly. Her hands slipped on the wall, a slight look of panic flickering across her face but she regained her balance quickly and sighed in relief. She pushed away from the wall and glided forward a few inches before coming to a stop. She whipped her head round, her smile so bright that Katsuki thought he was going to go blind.

She skated back over to the wall, wobbling slightly as she came to a stop but she didn’t stop smiling. “It’s been a few years so I’m a little rusty” she laughed, rubbing at the back of her neck and blushing. Katsuki just grunted, feeling his own face heat up but he refused to believe it was for any other reason than the cold. “Are you coming?” Todoroki asked as he moved past Katsuki, sitting down on the ice wall and started to cover his own shoes in ice. “Hell no” Katsuki barked out angrily but as soon as the words were out of his mouth he regretted them.

He would be left on the side lines, unable to do anything but watch as Y/N and the shitty candy cane skated around the space, smiling and laughing and most likely holding hands, looking very much like the couple they weren’t. This hand been Katsuki’s idea but if he didn’t go out there the bastard would reap all the rewards but there was one glaring problem that he hadn’t really thought about when suggesting this. Katsuki couldn’t skate, had never set foot inside an ice rink before and suddenly he was regretting that decision. He couldn’t help it, he just hatted the cold so fucking much so why would he want to ever trap himself in a room that was designed to be fucking freezing?

He wouldn’t be able to stand, would probably fall on his ass and make a fool of himself and he refused to look anything less that than god damned perfect in front of Y/N. He bet the half ‘n’ half bastard was fucking amazing at it as well, all that time he spent gliding around on his own ice. Shit, his sister had probably taken him ice skating when he was little, showing the little shit how amazing his ice quirk could be. Katsuki hatted that he could imagine it. A chubby cheeked little brat with wide and amazed eyes as he got to see what he could do with half of his quirk.

Todoroki shrugged his shoulders, glancing down at his ice covered shoes as he spoke. “Suit yourself” he mumbled as he got ready to step on the ice. Katsuki moved quickly, dropping down onto the wall opposite and lifting his foot and resting it between Todoroki’s spread legs, preventing the boy from getting up. He would not get left behind, nor would he let the shitty bastard get ahead of him. Todoroki looked down at his foot before glancing up at Katsuki and raising an eyebrow at him in either amusement or question. Katsuki couldn’t really tell, might even be both but whatever one it was it pissed Katsuki off and he found himself glaring at the other teen.

“Hurry the fuck up” he growled out, kicking out at his knee to get him to move. Katsuki’s ass was getting cold and he didn’t want to be sat here any longer than he had to. Todoroki scowled at him but still picked up his foot and started to create the skate. This was going to end so fucking badly, Katsuki was sure of it and he could almost guarantee that he was going to end up with bruises all over his body by the time he crawled off the ice. Shit. Why was he putting himself through this again?

As if to remind him as to why a soft tinkling sound filled the air and Katsuki snapped his head round to look at Y/N who had moved to stand on his other side playing with her phone. The tinkling faded as the sound of guitars and drums took over, a gruff man’s voice starting soon after that and Katsuki groaned. Y/N smirked, glancing over at him before she turned the volume up as high as it would go and placed her phone down on the wall behind him. Christmas music, fucking Christmas music. The words were in English, the guy singing practically shouting the overly cheerful tune and suddenly Katsuki was glad that it wasn’t that much of a big thing in Japan because he didn’t think he would be able to put up with listening to this shit for weeks on end. He would end up blowing something or someone up before they even made it to Christmas day.

He felt Todoroki move his leg out the way before lifting the other one up and Katsuki let him, keeping his unimpressed gaze on Y/N. She laughed gently as she moved closer to him and to Katsuki’s surprise she pressed up against his side, wrapping her arms around his and leaning her head on his shoulder as she watched Todoroki work. Sighing Katsuki turned his head, resting his head against Y/Ns as they both watched the other teen in silence. It moment was nice, the stupid pop song slipping into something softer that wasn’t so offensive to Katsuki’s ears.

It didn’t take Todoroki long and once the ice was formed into a sturdy looking skate he gently moved Katsuki’s foot away from him and let his leg go. As soon as the skates were ready Y/N was gone, effortlessly gliding away and looking at them both expectantly and waiting for them to join her.

Todoroki was the first to move, gracefully standing up and taking his first few gliding steps forward only to lose his balance and fall flat on his ass with a startled yelp. Katsuki let out a loud bark of laughter, the other teen turning to glare at him. Y/N glided up to him and Katsuki could see that she was desperately trying to keep her own laughter in, biting at her lip as she smiled down at him. “Are you okay?” she managed to get out without laughing, offering him her hands to help him up. “I’m fine” he grumbled, his cheeks turning a bright red. The idiot spent hours on the ice, he should be able to walk over it effortlessly and Katsuki said as such.

“Shouldn’t you be used to this shit?” Katsuki barked out, watching intently as Y/N kept the idiot steady as he finally made it to his feet. “What I do and this are two very different things” the teen snapped back and Katsuki scoffed. “You fucking surf on ice, how is this harder than that?” Y/N gave him a disapproving look and would probably have told him off for being mean to the poor delicate ice prince if said idiot didn’t chose that moment to open his mouth and make things worse. “I would like to see you do better” Todoroki said flatly and Katsuki bristled at the challenge, sitting up straighter and glaring at the other boy. “No, just no. This isn’t a competition” Y/N said sternly but it was too late, the fucker had lain down the gauntlet and Katsuki would show his smug ass that he was the fucking best for a reason. “I’ll show you fucking better” he growled out ready and eager to prove the other teen wrong.

Y/N groaned as Katsuki narrowed his eyes at the shitty candy cane who glared back at him. Y/N had let go of his hands to throw hers up in exasperation, looking to the sky and shaking her head but she moved forward, probably intending to help Katsuki but when he let out a warning growl she stopped, pursing her lips and crossing her arms over her chest. He had to do this himself if he was going to prove anything to that smug fucking.

Nervously he glanced down at the ice, suddenly unsure if the ice skates would hold his weight or if they would shatter as soon as he stood and sending him to the floor in a tangled mess of limbs and pain. The mismatched bastard let out and amused huff and Katsuki directed his glare back at him, snarling and growling. Fuck him. Katsuki wasn’t scared of shit and he defiantly wasn’t scared about putting all his weight on two thin blades of ice and trying to glide across a massive sheet of ice.

Katsuki placed both feet down on the ice and shuffled his ass forwards until he was finally standing up, his gloved hands desperately trying to find some sort of purchase on the wall of ice behind him to keep him from falling. He didn’t look up at the other two, focusing solely on his feet. Slowly and tentatively he let go of the wall and took his first step forward. He wobbled slightly his arms darting out to either side to try and keep him balanced. His heart was pounding away in his chest, his hands sweating inside his gloves and his breathing harsh, puffing out in front of him in a small cloud. Steading his nerves and himself Katsuki took another small step forward and then another and another. With each step he felt more stable and confident and finally he looked up at the other two.

Y/N was smiling brightly, looking all kinds of proud of him and Katsuki really didn’t want to unpack the way that made his chest hurt, a smile braking out across his face in answer. Next to her Todoroki had crossed his arms over his chest and was giving Katsuki a bored look. Katsuki’s smile turned into a smug smirk, flashing his teeth as the other teen huffed and rolled his eyes.

His smugness didn’t last.

With the next step he lost his footing, his ankle buckling and causing his leg to slide out from under him. “Katsuki!” Y/N exclaimed darting forward to help him. Panicking he flailed his arms, hands reaching out to her and grabbing at her arms but it was too little too late. Y/Ns eyes widened as he pulled her down with him, her body colliding with his and sending them hurtling to the floor quicker. He grunted as his ass hit the floor, his shoulders smacking against the ice and he screwed his eyes shut as he anticipated the smack of his head hitting it but it never came.

Confused he opened his eyes only to find Y/Ns concerned face just inches away from his. He sucked in a sharp breath, suddenly aware of the fact that she was draped across him, practically straddling him. Her chest was pressed tight against his and somehow his hands had ended up grabbing at her hips, holding her lower body tight against his own. It was a rather compromising position and despite the cold he could feel seeping through his clothes his body felt hot, his face heating to the point it felt like it was on fire.

“Fuck” he mumbled, not having meant to say that out loud but it seemed his brain to mouth filter had chosen that moment to fuck off. Y/Ns concern eased into amusement, the furrow between her brows easing out as she smiled down at him, a gentle laugh escaping between her lips. “Glad to see you’re still as eloquent as always” she teased. Katsuki scowled up at her, his hands tightening on her hips as he felt his cheeks get impossibly hotter. “Fuck you” he grumbled, no real heat behind his words and pouting like a petulant child. To his annoyance Y/Ns smile seemed to grow her eyes practically sparkling with a mix of amusement and mischief and Katsuki knew then that he had said completely the wrong thing.

“Well that escalated quickly. Shouldn’t you at least buy me dinner beforehand?” Katsuki’s entire body went stiff at her low and teasing words, her hot breath puffing out across his cheek and lips with every word. His brain was stuck, unable to make it past her words and actually understand what the fuck was happening. His eyes were wide, his hands twitching and his mouth was hanging open in stunned silence and he knew he must look all kinds of stupid but he couldn’t seem to kick his brain into gear. Was that? Was she? Fuck! He couldn’t even finish a damned thought.

Y/N seemed to find his stunned silence amusing, chuckling softly as she pulled away from him. She gently slid her hands out from under his head, cradling his skull so he wouldn’t hit it at the loss of her supporting hands. When she sat up Katsuki instantly felt cold without her body heat pressing against his front that had been chasing away the early evening chill that had begun to settle in. “And how was this better?” the shitty candy cane said flatly as he skated shakily up to their side, staring down at Katsuki in what he could only describe as thinly veiled annoyance.

The other boy’s words snapped Katsuki out of his stupor and he snapped his mouth shut, tilting his head so he could glare up at him. “Did fucking better then you did Bambi” Katsuki growled out in annoyance. The candy canes eyes narrowed, lips pursed in annoyance but he didn’t say anything as Katsuki had in fact made it further onto the ice than he had. Instead he turned his attention to Y/N, holding out his hands for her to take so he could help her back onto her feet. She gave a mumbled ‘thanks’ as she stood, Katsuki grumbling as his hands slid down the outside of her thighs and legs until they rested over her leather covered ankles. With a huff of amusement she stepped back, his hands falling to the ice.

Now that she was completely off of him Katsuki could definitely feel the cold seeping in, despite all his layers and he had to resist the urge to pull Y/N back and cuddle up to her heat. Grunting he pushed himself up onto his elbows, ready to get the hell up and try and get warm again. When he got cold his quirk refused to work, unable to produce the sweat he needed and he hatted how fucking useless it made him feel when he didn’t have his quirk at his beck and call. Two hands were held out to him, one Y/Ns and the other Todoroki’s and Katsuki glanced up at them, eyes darting between the two of them. Y/N huffed wiggling her fingers at him and with a grunt Katsuki accepted her hand, grabbing at the bastards arm as he allowed them to pull him back to his feet.

He wobbled slightly as did the candy cane, both of them gripping tighter at the other until they felt stable. Grunting Katsuki quickly let go of the other boy, looking away as he mumbled out a quick ‘thanks’. All three of them were stood close together and Katsuki could feel the heat that radiated off of them, thankful that the shitty bastard was stood on his right so he didn’t have to put up with the cold his other side emitted. He didn’t know if it was done on purpose or not, both of them knowing how he felt about the cold but either way he wouldn’t knock it, already starting to feel himself warm up.

“Ready to try again?” Y/N asked, lifting her arms and offering each of them a hand. Todoroki didn’t hesitate, taking her offered hand and lacing their fingers together but Katsuki just stared at it. Y/N smiled softly at him, Todoroki looking at him with his signature blank face and all Katsuki could do was panic. He hated looking weak and to him, accepting and admitting he needed help was a sign of weakness. He had come a long way since the day he had slapped Deku’s hand away as he sat in the river feeling looked down upon but he still struggled sometimes with allowing people to help him. The reality was though that he couldn’t skate for shit and if he didn’t want to end up on his ass again then he had to take her hand and let her show him how to move forward. At least the shitty candy cane was in the same position, needing her to help him as much as Katsuki did so he wasn’t the only pathetic one. Katsuki reached out, lacing his fingers with hers and as a reward her smile brightened, a look of genuine happiness on her face and suddenly falling on his ass and admitting his lack of skill seemed worth it. Slowly Y/N began to skate backwards, her grip tightening and they both allowed her to pull them forward.

It was slow going at first, he and Todoroki wobbly on their feet but Y/N was patient with them, offering encouragement as well as helpful tips on technique and neither of them fell again. The Christmas music played in the background, the sun finally setting and leaving them under the glow of the outside lights. At some point it started to snow again, just a light dusting and Katsuki was loathed to admit the whole thing felt fucking magical, like a scene out of one of the shitty Christmas movies they had watched earlier.

Over the space of the hour they spent on the ice he and Todoroki got better and at some point Y/N let go of them so they could skate on their own. It had been daunting at first but she hadn’t gone far, skating next to them and there to help if they wobbled. They talked about random shit, the candy cane complaining about his old man constantly badgering him to join his agency. Their relationship was better but Katsuki couldn’t blame the other boy for wanting to make it on his own and he wouldn’t be able to do that with the old bastard breathing down his neck. Katsuki grumbled about his parents try to force him to take on a few modelling gigs, not wanting to be one of those superficial heroes only in it for the fame and money but also knowing how important endorsements would end up being to his career. Y/N told them more about the cabin in the woods and what Christmas was like for her, from her childhood years spent at the cabin to the most recent ones spent in St Petersburg.

It was nice and strangely romantic and he would be adamant that it had been a date if the half ‘n’ half bastard hadn’t been there but weirdly it wasn’t weird or awkward at all. The strange friendship they had formed this year helped towards that and Katsuki was comfortable enough with the other boy to not care that he was seeing a softer side to his normally angry and explosive personality. Katsuki got to see him too though, that ice prince facade melting in the presence of Y/N and her infectious happiness but all good things had to come to an end and soon enough Y/N was guiding them back towards the ice wall whilst fussing about how late it was and how they needed to get home. Frankly Katsuki would have been happy to spend the night, wouldn’t even care that Todoroki was there as well and all three of them could crawl into either his or Y/Ns bed and sleep, huddled up and sharing body heat. Not the bastards bed though. Katsuki was all for traditional and shit but he would take an actual bed over a futon any day, no matter how fucking comfy the candy canes was.

It was eerily silent when Y/N turned the music off and along with the absence of the sound of their skates grating against the ice it made it even more noticeable how late it had actually gotten. Y/N melted the ice off his boots, Katsuki able to feel the heat through the leather. He couldn’t watch as she did it, the girl knelt before him as he leaned against the ice wall and he could feel his cheeks turning red once more and not from the cold this time. As soon as she was done Y/N was up and shoving him back towards the dorms, demanding he go make himself and Todoroki tea for on the way home. He had grumbled and bitched the whole time, not really wanting to leave the other two on their own in case the stupid idiot actually managed to read a social situation correctly and asked Y/N out but she didn’t give him much choice in the matter, pouting up at him and fluttering her lashes until he caved.

He didn’t bother taking his boots or coat off, just trudged through the living space to the kitchen and setting about his task. He watched the other two like a hawk through the windows the entire time, eyes narrowing every time the bastard got too close to Y/N but all they did was work on melting the ice, restoring the yard back to how it should be and occasionally exchanging words but considering Y/N often ended up laughing Katsuki didn’t think the idiot had asked her out. Once he had two thermos cups ready as well as a normal cup for Y/N Katsuki headed back outside, the three cups precariously balanced in his arms.

The cold night air hit him like a punch to the gut as soon as he opened the door. “Fucks sake” Katsuki grumbled, turning so his back took the brunt of the breeze. Fucking winter. He hated the shitty season. Why was he going home again and not just crawling into his warm and welcoming bed? “Just in time” Y/N chirped happily appearing from behind and taking the two thermos cups from him and placing them on the railing before turning back to get hers. Katsuki thought that would be it but she placed her own cup down next to the other two and turned back to him with a mischievous smirk.

He wasn’t prepared to have the girl fling herself at him, burying her face in his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist under his coat. The force of her attack had him stumbling backwards, his feet slipping on the wet wood but his reflexes were quicker, one hand darting out to grab at the railing whilst the other wound around Y/N and pulled her tighter against him. “Ummm so warm” she mumbled, nuzzling her face right between his pecs and for what felt like the one hundredth time that day had Katsuki stunned into silence. He knew that Y/N was cuddly but this was taking it to a whole other level.

Sighing Katsuki relaxed, letting go of the railing so he could wrap his arm around her. He tipped his head forward, resting his cheek on her head and deciding to enjoy the moment whilst it lasted. Out the corner of his eyes Katsuki watched Todoroki trudge up the steps and go straight to the tea, picking up one of the thermos cups with both hands and leant casually back against the railing. He stared at them, his face blank and unreadable and Katsuki had to wonder if he was jealous that Katsuki was getting all her attention. He knew that he would be if their roles were reversed.

As if he knew what Katsuki was thinking the bastard let out a small huff of laughter, his thin lips quirking up into a knowing smirk. Katsuki frowned, knowing full well that if he was where the candy cane was he would be fuming, sulking at being left out and trying to come up with a reasonable excuse as to how to split the other two apart. Not smirking like the fucking cat who had just eaten the cannery and drunk a whole bowl of cream on top of it. It was suspicious as hell and Katsuki wanted to know what was going on.

The other teen hid his smirk behind the rim of the cup, his mismatched eyes almost seeming to glow with amusement and Katsuki barely had time to wonder what his problem was before he found out. “AHHH FUCK!” he yelled loudly, his back arching as he tried to get away from the ice cold hands that had just been shoved up and under his many layers of clothes and were now pressing against his skin. “Get the fuck off me” Katsuki growled, shoving at Y/Ns shoulders as he tried to squirm his way out of her grasp. “But I’m cold Katsuki” she whined, her arms tightening as one hand pressed against the small of his back and the other made its way up between his shoulder blades. “Fuck” he gasped, his whole body shivering. It felt like her hands were covered in ice and considering who they had spent the majority of the day with he wouldn’t be surprised if it was true.

Giving up with shoving her shoulders Katsuki grabbed at her arms and tried to yank them out of his clothes but the girl was like a fucking leach, her icy fingers digging in like teeth and refusing to budge “And? You should have worn gloves like a normal person” Katsuki snarled. The shitty candy cane laughed at his distress and Katsuki snapped his head up to glare at him. Fucking asshole, it was probably his idea or he had at least encouraged Y/N to act on her chaotic impulses. “Shoto hasn’t got gloves on” Y/N mumbled as she pushed up onto her toes only to shove her equally cold nose under his scarf and against his neck. “I said normal!” Katsuki practically shrieked, smacking a palm on her forehead and shoving her head away from him.

Y/N was laughing, clearly enjoying Katsuki’s discomfort and if he wasn’t so fucking cold he would have set off an explosion or two to get her away from him. “I would say stop but clearly he’s enjoying it” Todoroki drawled sarcastically, turning his head away and sipping at his tea and looking every inch as disinterested as he possibly could. Katsuki growled out in annoyance, ready to tell the shitty bastard where he could shove it but before he could even open his mouth Y/N was speaking. “I suppose you’re right” she signed but Katsuki’s mind was elsewhere, her hands warming up as she smoothed them over his cold skin, her fingers massaging into his muscles.

Katsuki groaned unashamedly, eyes falling closed and head tipping back as his cold body filled with heat, her touch chasing away any last remaining chill. Too quickly it was gone though, her hands slipping out from under his clothes as she stepped out of his hold. “Come on blondie, before I decide not to let either of you go”. Katsuki huffed at her words, cracking his eyes open so he could watch her as she turned to the candy cane and took her offered cup of tea off of him. Katsuki was tempted to say fuck it, storm back inside the door and strip off his coat and boots and sprawl across the sofa, refusing to leave but he had to. If he stayed the night the old hags teasing would be relentless and even if he told her Todoroki had been there as well, because if Katsuki stayed than so would he, she still wouldn’t let it go. It was going to be bad enough as it was and he could do without the added stress of her poking her nose where it wasn’t wanted.

Resigned to his fate Katsuki fixed his scarf before starting on his clothes, tugging his many layers down and into place before doing his coat back up in an attempt to keep as much heat in as possible. “Thanks” he growled when the shitty candy cane offered him the thermos of tea, the heat of it seeping through even the expensive leather of his gloves. His back was still tingling from where Y/Ns hands had been and he was sure he could feel them there still even though she was now leaning back against the railing next to the half ‘n’ half. It was like the heat had been branded into his skin and Katsuki knew he would still be feeling it later, much latter when he was in the safety of his own room and he could give the memory of her touch the proper attention it deserved.

Katsuki glanced down the steps and across the yard towards the path that disappeared between the trees. They really should leave before it got too late but he didn’t want to, didn’t want to leave Y/N here all alone again. “Thank you”. Katsuki turned back to look at Y/N when she spoke, finding her gazing up at Todoroki fondly, tea in one hand as the other brushed through his hair. That little pang of jealousy shot through Katsuki again but it didn’t seem as harsh as it had been before today and he found himself for the first time not having to stomp down the urge to snatch Y/N away from the other teen.

“Thank you, for the gift” the idiot deadpanned and Y/Ns smile got wider. “Did you like it?” Todoroki simply nodded at her question, the smallest of smiles just curling at his lips. Katsuki remembered Y/N handing the other boy a gift of similar size to his, wrapped in white and silver instead of the black and gold like his had been. Todoroki hadn’t made no mention of his gift and suddenly Katsuki was curious as to what Y/N had given him. He wondered if she had put the same effort and passion into his as she had done Katsuki’s. If she had spent just as long weaving her life around something the other teen loved. Had she reviled as much to him as she had to Katsuki or even different things than she had told the blonde? It had already been proven that they spoke about things without Katsuki there, the fact that the shitty candy cane new what green tea she preferred being proof of that so what if the other boy now knew things that he didn’t? Maybe it was the other way round though, Katsuki knowing things that Todoroki didn’t, things he could flaunt in the other boys face.

“Let me know when you get home?” Katsuki startled at the voice, closer now than it had been and he stared down dumbly at the hand that had been placed on his arm. Y/N was looking up at him with concern, his constant spacing out probably having her worried that something was wrong. He searched for the shitty candy cane, finding the other boy already stood at the bottom of the steps and looking back at him with a little frown. Shit. How had he been so lost in thought that he hadn’t even noticed him moving let alone the goodbye he and Y/N had probably shared?

“Yeah” he mumbled, frowning at nothing in particular. He really needed to get a grip or he was going to end up getting hurt if he spaced out at the wrong moment. “Thank you for today, I had fun” she said sincerely and Katsuki felt pride well up inside of him. He had made her happy and yeah fine, the candy cane had had some part to play in that happiness but he had still been partly responsible, if not more so considering coming here had been his idea. “Yeah me, erh, me to” he mumbled, that ridiculous feeling of embarrassment swelling up again. Y/N gave him one last once over, her smile slowly spreading into a smirk. She winked at him before stepping back out the way and gesturing towards the stairs.

Katsuki moved out of habit, clutching the cup in both hands and stomping down the steps. He stopped when he got to the bottom, turning back to find Y/N leaning against the post at the top of the stairs. She looked good, all casual and relaxed, clearly happy and cosy in his clothes. He wondered if she would wear something similar on New Year’s or if he would be able to cox her into a kimono. Katsuki was sure he would be able to get one at short notice, maybe he would be lucky enough to get one in his colours, just to drive home the point to the half ‘n’ half bastard that Katsuki had won. Maybe he should invite the idiot along as well, just so Katsuki could watch him sulk all night. The thought slammed into Katsuki and he mentally screamed at his own stupidity. How could he invite the bastard along to gloat when he hadn’t even asked Y/N to actually go out with him?

Mumbling under his breath about how much of a fucking idiot he was Katsuki stomped back up the steps, Y/N looking at him with what appeared to be a strange mix of concern, happiness and worry. He stopped on the step below her, the height difference making it so they could look the other in the eye without having to strain their necks. She pushed away from the post, standing up straight and falling into a stance that looked casual enough but Katsuki had spared with her enough to know that she was getting ready to run if she had to.

Shit. She knew, she had to and he was about to go and fuck up a perfectly good day by opening his stupid mouth and asking something she clearly didn’t want him to but he had to know. There was something there between them, he could feel it and sure, he could see it reflected back at him when she was around the half ‘n’ half bastard as well but he was the one stood before her about to take the next step. HA! Next step his ass. Felt more like he was about to jump off the edge of a cliff and plummet towards the dark depths below with the small hope that someone would catch him before he hit rock bottom.

It was a simple thing to ask and at least he would then know either way what she felt. So what if she picked the shitty candy cane over him? He would get over it. Sure it would hurt like a bitch to watch her fawn all over the other teen and he would have to keep the fuck away from both of them for some time but he would get over it, eventually. But if she said yes, if she chose him, than Katsuki didn’t think he would be able to wipe the stupid smile off his face even if he tried.

“So erm, New Year’s there’s this festival thing in town with fireworks and shit” he mumbled nervously, glancing down at Y/Ns boots and rubbing at the back of his neck. This shouldn’t be so fucking hard. He was fearless in the face of an enemy, ready to stand his ground and fucking fight till the death but when faced with asking a girl out he was acting like fucking Deku, blushing and stumbling over his own words. It was pathetic and he was better than this.

Squaring his shoulder Katsuki looked up, determined to ask. “Go with me” he growled out, the words sounding almost angry as he forced them out between clenched teeth. That had not been a question that had been a god damned demand. Mother fucker. What the hell was wrong with him? He was supposed to ask like a normal human being not fucking growl at her like some cave man and demand that she go with him like she didn’t have a choice. Shit, he was screwing this up so badly.

Katsuki watched as Y/Ns face fell and he knew straight away what her answer was going to be. “I can’t”. She sounded so desperate, like she was pleading with him to understand as she fiddled with her bracelets but Katsuki couldn’t. It fucking hurt, the stab of rejection twisting in his heart. Fuck he had been so stupid. Of course she wouldn’t want to go out with him. He had anger issues and a shit personality. He couldn’t even make it through a conversation without swearing and he was just dam right rude to everyone, including his friends. Of course she wouldn’t want him. It was probably for the best. He wouldn’t have time to be the kind of boyfriend she deserved, not if he wanted to make it into the top ten before he hit twenty five. He had his career to think about and if he wanted to be the number one hero than it would mean long hours and a level of dedication that wouldn’t leave enough time for a social life. No this was for the best. At least he would have some time to get over his broken heart before he had to see her again.

“I, I would if I could but I erm, I already have plans. My umm, my dad is coming over and we’re going to spend a couple of day together, you know some father daughter time” Y/Ns words rushed out of her mouth in a desperate plea, her desperate and panicked eyes searching his face and he had to wonder if she had been able to see the heartache and rejection he had felt at her words. But it hadn’t been a rejection, had it? She had said she couldn’t, not that she didn’t want to. She would if she could but she already had plans, so that was a yes, right? Y/N would have said yes if her asshole dad wasn’t going to be here. She wanted to go out with him.

Katsuki felt his face split in half as he smiled. She would have said yes. Relief flashed across Y/Ns face and she let out a loud sigh, her tense body visibly relaxing. “I’ll call you though. We can video chat and you can show me the fireworks”. Katsuki was fucking beaming. Sure it wasn’t a date but at least he would still get to spend time some time with her, even if it did mean he had to go to the festival by himself like some kind of loser just so he could show her the shitty fireworks. Would be fucking worth it though if it got her to smile.

“Yeah” he mumbled, sounding dopy even to his own ears. Coughing Katsuki quickly schooled his features, his normal scowl back in place. “I’ll find the best dam spot there” he growled out, sounding more like himself and less like an idiot in love, not that he was in love or anything. Y/N was smiling again but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, a sadness lurking there that Katsuki chalked up to the fact she wouldn’t be able to see them herself. “I’m sure you will” she laughed and Katsuki grunted, jerking his head once in a sharp nod. He would find the best spot, make sure she had a fucking perfect view and didn’t miss a damned thing.

Satisfied that he had gotten what he had come for Katsuki practically bounced down the steps and back to Todoroki, smiling smugly the whole time. The bastard just gave him a flat look, the idiot probably not being able to understand that Katsuki had just gotten a sort of date with the girl they were both after. Fuck Denki and his shitty book, Katsuki was going to throw it at his head the next time he saw the idiot and tell him that he had wasted his money.

Katsuki didn’t wait for the other teen, just strolled confident past him and heading towards the school grounds entrance. He fell into step beside Katsuki quickly though, the two of them walking in silence as they trudged through the snow and sipping at their still warm drinks. Now that he wasn’t so distracted Katsuki could feel the cold once more, the stupidly frigid air somehow able to make it through his many layers and make his skin prickle. “I could come with you” Todoroki said flatly. Katsuki’s smile fell as he turned to look at the other boy next to him in confusion. “Huh?” The candy cane looked at him flatly, his face as blank as ever as he spoke slowly like Katsuki was stupid and couldn’t understand him. “The festival. I could come with you so you were not on your own”.

Katsuki stared at the other teen for a few long seconds, contemplating his words before letting out a huff and turning his attention back to the snow covered path before them. “Whatever, just don’t expect me to wait around for you” Katsuki grumbled, glancing quickly over to the other boy to see him nodding his head. Great, now he was going to have to deal with that asshole at least twice more in the next week. At least tomorrow they would be able to spar and he could beat the crap out of him.

Once at the top of the hill the two of them stopped and turned to look back at the dorms. Y/N was still stood on the decking, leaning against the railing and watching them go. As soon as she realised they were looking at her she started to wave, bracing herself on the railing with one arm and waving the other like a manic. Grunting Katsuki returned the gesture, Todoroki doing the same next to him. He was still tempted to say fuck it and head back down there but if he did he probably wouldn’t leave and end up staying for the rest of the break and if he did that the shitty candy cane would undoubtedly end up doing the same.

Sighing Katsuki let his arm drop and started on his way again, shoving his hands into his coats pockets in an attempt to keep them warm. The candy cane kept pace next to him and the two of them fell into their usual bickering as they argued about the workout that Katsuki had planned for the next morning that the lazy idiot was trying to get Katsuki to push back so he could sleep longer.

It had been a long and strange day but Katsuki had enjoyed it, hadn’t even minded having the half ‘n’ half bastard around either. He hadn’t exactly gotten the answers he had wanted, nor had he gotten the chance to talk to Y/N about her gift to him but he still felt he had made some kind of progress. At least now he knew that there were some kind of feelings there other than friendship, even if she did have similar feelings for the candy cane. All he had to do now was get her on an actual date. That shouldn’t be too hard.

Right?
