Roxy Music’s 8th and final album was released on 28 May 1982.

Avalon was the band’s 3rd album to top the charts in the UK (and remained #1 for 3 weeks, spending more than a year on the charts) and while it only peaked at #53 in the US, it’s the band’s only album to sell more than 1 million copies in the US.

The album cover was designed by Peter Saville and show’s Bryan Ferry’s girlfriend (and soon-to-be wife) Lucy Helmore looking out at the lake the couple could see from the lodge on the west coast of Ireland where Ferry began writing the songs for the album.
