My god, it’s bad. Everything about it is a fucking disaster. The “art”, the font, the text layout… all wtf. I think it’s supposed to be Catti-brie and Artemis, but holy moley, what a far cry from Lockwood’s art. Heck, what a far cry even from Briclot’s work. They both look like they’re wearing some sort of cheap fantasy/sci-fi fusion cosplay and Catti-brie’s bow looks like the Halloween prop, to say nothing about how she’s supposed to be a beautiful woman but very much isn’t. And Artemis… aye yai yai. So many issues. x_x
Given the trend that these books have been going in, at the very least, this cover will be a proper correlation for the quality of the writing. Also, the trilogy is called “The Way of the Drow” ffs. Bob’s really trying hard at the monk thing. ]]

All I Want For Christmas

[[ I started this in 2018 but was unfortunately not able to finish it then.
After over 100 hours between then and now, it’s finally done! This is the most time I’ve put into a piece, and represents the limit of where my skill is currently. It feels kind of surreal right now, I didn’t think I’d ever be able to finish it, and now that I have, I’m not altogether sure what to do with myself.
There’s a snowless version for those that are finding themselves buried under too much of the white stuff.
A very Merry Christmas to everyone, Happy Holidays, and may the coming New Year be full of good things for all of you! ❤️

[[ I received the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of the next Drizzt book, Glacier’s Edge. As has become customary, I’m sharing a preview of the book and will answer questions about it after I finish reading it.
Like usual, I did a keyword search for various character names to get an idea of how much of a part they play.
First, sadly, it doesn’t look like it’s much of an Artemis book:
On the plus side, it is very much a Jarlaxle book:
As a comparison, searching for “Drizzt” yielded less results than Jarlaxle, however not significantly less, so it looks like Glacier’s Edge splits the spotlight between Drizzt and Jarlaxle:
Since it seems likely that the rest of the traveling crew would be, like Artemis, stuck on ice for much of the time, I searched for both Zak and Catti to see how much they appear compared to Artemis:
Sadly, it looks like Artemis gets the short end of the stick. Although annoying, I can’t say that it’s terribly surprising that Catti-brie manages to appear the most despite being in the same predicament as the one who appears the least.
I did a quick skim through of all the Artemis mentions, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look too promising. More of the same forced out of character behavior, little to no chemistry with Jarlaxle or anyone else for that matter, and in fact quite a bit of “NO HOMO” statements in the text whenever his closeness with Jarlaxle is mentioned.
That’s it for now. One other point of interest: Dinin, now known as Dininae, has more mentions than any of the frozen crew, as well as having character introspection, so he might be the only hope for any semblance of character development in this book. ]]
