The Venetian ideal realized, life as theatre on the Grand Canal

The entrance vestibule of the San Gregorio abbey, a collaboration between interior designer Chahan Minassian and antiquarian Colnaghi, set the stage of theatrical expectation for Become a Grand Tourist of the XXI Century exhibition during the Venice Biennale of 2019.

Flanking double iron doors that open onto the Grand Canal are two contemporary bronze vessels by Marie Khouri. Beneath two Bernacle ceramic chandeliers signed Chahan Design and Antoinette Faragallah sits a Roman labrum in giallo antico from the 1st-2nd century. On the right is Passages, a sculptural pewter and brass panel by Pierre Sabatier (1968), and on the left, in the foreground, stands a sculptural Sylphion ceramic screen by Peter Lane.
