Kiyoomi worries all the time.

He worries that he’s too particular, worries that the careful way he lives is a burden to the people around him, worries that he asks too much and gives too little because it’s the only thing he knows.

He wishes he could change, and he tells you that.

You pause, the dish you’ve just finished washing poised in hand, still steaming from the hot water in the sink–you’ve just cleaned it a second time, since Kiyoomi had pointed out that you missed a small spot on the bottom of the plate after the first. Water drips from the porcelain and into the basin underneath it since you’ve not yet handed it to Kiyoomi to dry.

“I know I’m hard to love,” he murmurs, effectively repeating his earlier point, “and I know it takes a lot of work.”

You put the clean plate back into the sink and turn to him, your face twisted in a look of hurt–not towards him, but forhim.

“Kiyoomi–”

He looks at you a little sheepishly from the corner of his eye, twisting the drying towel between his hands until he feels a tingle in his fingers as his circulation is hampered by the tightly wound cloth.

“–don’tever think that.”

He pauses, taken aback by how ardently you say the words. By how much he knowsyou mean them.

“Any relationship takes work, but the point is that it’s worth it. You’re worth it.” You take the towel from Kiyoomi’s fidgeting hands and use it to dry your own before setting it delicately aside–neatly folded in the way you know Kiyoomi needs it to be. “I’ve never once thought anything different; I’ve loved you from the day I met you and every day since. I barely had time to see it coming, and I’ve never ever questioned it.”

Kiyoomi feels a squeeze in his chest and a warmth in his face that he could blame on the steam curling from the sink, but he knows better.

You’vetaught him better.

You smile, stepping forward and wrapping your arms around him. He holds you back, tighter and more closely than he ever thought he’d hold anyone.

You laugh into the material of his t-shirt where your face is pressed, pulling away so you can look up at him. “So really, if you think about it, loving you is the easiest thing in the world.”
