See above Francis Hayman’s (1708-76) painting of Lovelace abducting Clarissa (1753), the first edition title page showing Richardson as publisher (1748), and Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki’s (1726-1801) illustrations for a much later edition of the novel, including Clarissa’s arrest outside the prison.

Anytime Martin drove Clarissa anywhere. he required that she sit naked on the seat with her legs open so, he could caress her as they drove.

It was rare that Martin would allow Clarissa to wear clothing. He had bought her some nice pearls and other jewelry. They contrasted nicely with her nakedness.

She was attached to a spreader bar while he enjoyed her mouth. He directed her on how to use her tongue and lips and when to take him deeper
