I made a tutorial about mixing colors when painting! It’s really long and rambly and probably repeats itself a lot, but maybe it’ll be helpful to somebody. It’s intended for people who already have a basic understanding of color theory, so I might recommend this tutorial by gawki if you don’t already know the basics.

this is important. even basic painting classes worth anything should touch on this.

Inspired by the famous blotter art of Albert Hoffman on his bicycle. The seven colors in the rainbow and the black and white on the character are what I used to fill in the rest of the pattern, making it a 9-color halftone. I upped this to 10 colors by using off-white for the entire thing except for the actual sun where I snuck in pure white to make it even brighter.

there’s also Coolors website that gives you randomized palettes!

Don’t forget ColourLovers, either! It’s a social media-esque site where you can browse tons of palettes and share your own.

You can browse the most popular ones or search for certain colors, themes, and even specific hex codes!

When you find one you like, you can download a wallpaper swatch of it and also select the specific colors it uses to look at more palettes that use those same ones.

ColourLovers is my go-to for when I’m having trouble coming up with a color scheme! It’s also been around for over a decade, so there’s plenty to browse through.
