I have never made any headcanons so I tried to get real creative.

My idea is that after the incident in the episode “The Trial” when Zim literally breaks the control brains with his brilliant stupidity, he didn’t just stop the brains from erasing his existence, a part of him became linked to them and he gains access to knowledge and skills have been lost to collective and are only excessable to the Tallest. The newly acquired data is stored in a corrupt file in his Pak and Zim isn’t even aware that it’s there but in certain situations it activates and he turns incredibly intelligent and powerful.

He doesn’t catch on to any of this though, he just assumes that he has always been that amazing.

Sorry if this doesn’t make much sense. Writing is not my forte.
