She had a simple rule, one that she had set for herself. Even when he was not home, she would not stand, walk or use the furniture unless she absolutely needed to. Even when he was away, he was still the master of the house.

Throughout their meal, she moved from one lap to the next, sucking industriously though her stomach growled with hunger. They dropped tantalizing scraps under the table from time to time, but only once they had finished eating and risen was she allowed to retrieve them on her hands and knees.
