Reminiscing on this really great advice that I got from @sensei_domino during a session from last summer. I’ve been writing music since I was 16, but I’ve only been recording myself in studios (at home/dorms/professional) since I was 18. And even then, it was very infrequently because I’d get too in my head about how I sounded and it made me not want to. I’m so grateful for @kinglimit bringing me to @sensei_domino because he helped me have a better understanding of working on my craft. It’s not just about writing, it’s not just about singing in my room, it’s not just about bouncing melodies or verses off of my peers. I have to take time to DWELL on my sound, my voice BEFORE stepping in the booth to lay down vocals for a track. Those cringeworthy moments help us artists grow and perfect our sound. I refuse to continue allowing my own little insecurities about how I sound keep me from getting better at what I love to do.
