Casey saying that, out of everyone truly means so much because really think about all the women that Matt has watched Kelly be with and the things he went through because of them (just that we’ve seen/heard about on screen, not to mention the women prior to the show starting):
• Renee 1 who cheated on him the day before his wedding.
• Tara, who accused him of assault.
• Renee 2 who he almost moved to Spain for and then almost had a baby with, one that she lead him to believe was his.
• Erin who helped him through some things but it never really went beyond that.
• Brittany who he only married in Vegas after knowing her for a few hours because he was drunk and sad while grieving Shay’s death. Matt even let that woman that he did know move into their apartment because he wanted to keep a eye on Kelly and knew Kelly would need him when things went south.
• Anna who was sick basically the entire time they were in love and then who he watched die right in front of him as her dad held him back.
• The flings that aren’t worth their own point here tbh aka, Zoya, Corrine, Nicki, Alex and Jamie.
• Then finally, he started dating Stella Kidd. The woman who he has been in love with since he met her while training her at the academy. It’s taken them some time to find the right moment to truly be together but they have finally found it.
Yes, Kelly Severide was a lady man/bachelor but he was also raised by Benny. He didn’t have a good example of stable relationships to look up to. I think he’s always wanted to settle down, he just wasn’t sure how to. Then Stella came along and made he want to settle down so he could be with her. If anyone knows all of this, besides Stella herself, it’s going to be Matt Casey. There’s no one else in the world who could be his best man. Period.
