#customer service problems

LIVE

Woman comes to registerwith her 13 year old son and a Zippo lighter: “Will this be good for your project?”

13 year old: “Yeah, I can use this.”

Me: “Ma’am, is this lighter for your son?”

Woman: “Oh yes, but I’m buying it, so it’s ok.”

Me: “Ma’am, I can’t sell it to you then, he’s a minor. It’s NY state law.”

Woman: “BUT I’M HIS MOTHER! I WANNA TALK TO YOUR MANAGER!”

I weep for humanity.

When customers start a complaint with, “I paid (x amount of money) and I feel I deserve…”

*keeps window up for 10+ minutes*

*has a billion requests*

*has nothing ready*

*fist full of change in the drawer*

“Well I don’t understand what took so long”

Me: Okay, your total comes to $367.27 today.
Customer: Can we get this for free since we spent so much today? *holds up a piece of candy*
Me: Um, no, sorry.
Customer: Why not? It’s only nineteen cents.
Me: Well, I can add it to your bill…
Customer: I seriously can’t have it?
Me: No! My store doesn’t own that company, I can’t just give things away because you want it.

is when the husband/boyfriend is in the driver’s seat, so you ask him anything about the order, then suddenly you see this head snap from the passenger’s seat and this bitch starts demanding you talk to her instead because you “shouldn’t be talking to (their) man when it’s (her) order” Then the poor guy just sinks in the front seat and attempts to disappear :’)

Me: Hi, can I help you?

[Customer makes beeline for manager]

Customer: You need to sort out that girl, she was addressing me disrespectfully, it’s rude.

Manager: Okay sir, I’ll sort that out, I’ll talk to her.

Customer: Don’t interrupt me, I don’t want to hear your excuses!

Just a friendly reminder that when you’re out shopping or dinning or whatever, workers are not actually ‘paid to do that’ as in clean up after your mess and wait on you hand and foot. They are however, paid to keep their working environment clean and to provide excellent customer service.

So if you slip up, we’re all judging you and believe in instant karma.

Customers who tell you “that’s expensive!”

That’s not my problem, what do you expect me to do about that

Customer : I’d like that menu, please.

Me : The large one ?

Customer : No. I’ll take large fries, and a large drink.

Me : …

Customer tries to extract a straw from one of four straw dispensers on the counter. Customer fails. Customer tried again with the same dispenser and fails again. Customer opens the back of the dispenser, and an avalanche of straws fall onto our counter. Customer takes one straw, stares me dead in the eyes, and leaves.

I feel like this customer was really a gorilla in disguise.

Little background info before I start my story.
I work at a small gas station at night, sometimes there is only one employee there except at shift change and MAYBE an hour or two overlap.

It was about 10pm-ish, about 2 hours before closing.
It was fairly slow so I went outside to clean up the outside by the pumps and take out all the trash from the trashcans.
I walk out of the kiosk and am looking at my cart for all of a minute, when an asshat of a customer comes up and yells at me that he has been waiting at the window for me for five minutes.
He tries to break a hundred for a 5$ purchase, and I have to decline because our till can’t be over 75$ after 8pm.
He gets pissed off and leaves.

About 3 minutes later I am by the dumpsters to take out the trash when some random homeless man pops out and attacks me.
I take off back to my store and manage to get inside with no real harm.
I hit the panic button and call the police, about two minutes later they arrive.

At this point I am sitting on the curb outside talking to an officer
I AM VISIBLY SHAKEN AND SOBBING
Here comes Mr.Asshat
He gets mad when I tell him I can’t help him right now and the store is momentarily closed, then I try to explain what happened
He interrupts me, tells me he doesn’t want to hear my shit, tells me I deserved it for being a stupid cunt, and throw a glass bottle of cola on the ground then takes off.

Unfortunately he wasn’t the only customer to yell at me and get angry. I was even being verbally abused while the police were trying to shut down the store and turn everyone away.
