warnings:lots of fluff is all, i’ve aged daniel up for this and we’re also going to pretend that ali was never a romantic interest - just for this fic! :)
word count: 1.7k+ (not including letters/questions - lol yeah i’m still counting them)
notes:so i’m gonna say these letters are all based around daniel being like 24+ or something, to help you visualise (- mostly to help me write it haha). also, gonna say they’ve been together for 6ish years (since around 18?) kay? cool.
notes pt 2 (lmao): i’m sorry this took so long to write, there have been many family related things that have distracted me recently - leading me to my second apology if this is complete sh*t - i have tried my best to write daniel well and make this cute and i just don’t have great focus right now, so, excuse these rambles but i just hope it is enjoyable at least.
A = Admiration (what do they absolutely adore about you?)
Your kindness is his favourite thing about you. Many times he has witnessed you helping random strangers out of the pure goodness of your heart, and he couldn’t be prouder of you. He also loves your sense of humour since it matches his. He adores how you will sit and study while he trains now and again, how you support him and cheer him on.
B = Body (what is their favorite part of your body?)
He loves your hands. He thinks they look perfect in his and loves to trace small circles in your palms. Whenever you say goodbye or goodnight, he’ll plant a soft kiss against your knuckles, and when you walk side by side, you always feel the brush of his thumb against your skin. He loves the colour of your eyes, and also, your shoulders, too.
C = Cuddling (how do they like to cuddle?)
Daniel is a big hugger. Welcome home hugs, goodbye hugs, movie nights while laying on the sofa hugs, bad day hugs, excited spinning hugs - he’ll take them all, anywhere, at any time. He has probably never said it, but he also really loves it when you are the one to initiate a hug between the two of you. It makes him feel safe, loved, and seen.
D = Dates (what does their ideal date with you look like?)
He doesn’t have an ideal date plan, you know. He is happy anywhere with you. However, some of your favourites are; going to drive-in movies, hanging out by the sea, small concerts and/or dancing, or just a simple walk around town.
E = Emotions (how do they express emotion around you?)
Daniel is often closed off with his deeper feelings. He’ll usually try to hide them from you, using the excuse of not wanting to upset you as well more than a few times. But Daniel has ‘tells’. You’ve learned that when he’s bottling something heavy, he will be a lot less talkative and a little more clingy - like he’s using affection to mask his feelings. When you finally get him to crack, or on the occasion that he comes to you right away, he will rant and yell until he’s finished, and then fall into your arms for comfort or advice. When his feelings involve you or your relationship, though, it is a completely different story - he is very forthcoming.
F = Family (do they want one? If they do, when?)
He has often thought about your future and how your family could look. In his dream scenario, he would love to have two or three kids, and a dog is always, undoubtedly in the picture.
G = Gifts (how do they feel about gift giving? What are their habits when it comes to this?)
Daniel is the type of person who will complain if you spend too much money on him. But, he will also shell out all of his earnings on you. He loves and appreciates meaningful or homemade gifts, and he keeps everything you’ve given him on display in your home, or safely tucked away in a keepsake box.
H = Holding Hands (when/how do they like to hold hands?)
He loves holding your hand whenever he can. He remembers the first time he held your hand on your first date and it sent tingles over his body. Daniel thinks your hands were meant to be linked forever.
I = Injury (how would they act if you got hurt?)
His past trauma makes him very overprotective of you, and he can become almost overbearing when you get injured in any way, shape or form. There was one strangely sweet moment when you both talked over each of each other’s scars, explaining when and how you had got them.
J = Jokes (do they like to joke around with or prank you? how?)
Daniel has his unique sense of humour but loves cheesy dad jokes and quirky sarcasm, too. He once tried a prank, simply by scaring you, but it failed miserably and resulted in you falling and bruising your knee.
K = Kisses (how do they like to kiss you?)
Daniel is generally all for physical affection. He loves every and all types of kisses. One of his favourites are the soft pecks that he plants on your shoulders and cheek to wake you up in the morning. Others he loves are those random smooches throughout the day, those tiny 'i love you’s that need no words. You feel like the centre of his universe whenever he kisses the top of your hands, as well, and you are exactly that to him.
L = Love (how do they show you they love you?)
Daniel’s love languages are pretty much all of them: physical touch, acts of service, words of affirmation, quality time and gift-giving. He shows you how much he loves you through all of them, though he shows you most through his words and touch. Hugs, kisses and touches that let you know he is there with you, anywhere, always and undoubtedly. But most of all, he tells you every day without fail that he loves you with his entire body, mind and soul, maybe not always in so many words, but there isn’t a day where you go by without here those three little words at least once.
M = Memory (favorite memory together?)
His favourite memory is your first date, which was spent at the beach, sharing fries and drinking shakes. It was simple, perfect. You had met up at midday and ended up talking until it was almost midnight. You connected so quickly, and neither of you were expecting it, which made it that much better and more memorable.
He also really loves to think about the night you first met too, though. It was at the All Valley Tournament, after his big win. You barely knew anything about him then, but on your way out, you had stumbled into him, knocking him over. When you helped him to his feet and realised who he was, you instantly apologised and rambled about whether you’d made his injury worse or not. Daniel shushed you then, telling you it was fine and, to your surprise - no - shock, invited you to come and have lunch with him, his sensei and his mother. That was the beginning of your friendship, which eventually became much more.
N = Nightmare (what is their worst fear?)
His worst fear is losing you. Plain and simple. He adores you more than anything and couldn’t imagine not having you in his life. He fears breaking up, having you leave - or worse.
O = Oddity (what is one quirk they have?)
You love it when Daniel gets overexcited or hyper and starts to bounce on his feet. You’d seen him do it when he first bought the bonsai store and again when he won his second tournament - the way he had bounced over to Mr Miyagi to hug him brought a tear to your eye. And now he does it often, whenever he is extremely happy or caffeinated. On one occasion, when you had been apart for a week, he had bounced into your arms, just like he did Miyagi and knocked you onto the floor. Luckily it only caused a fit of laughter and teary eyes, as well as the sometimes used nickname of 'Bambi’.
P = Pet Names (what do they like to call you?)
Daniel is a big softie, and although sometimes he will call you “babe”, he prefers the much sweeter sounding and swoon-worthy, ’mi(o) amor(e)’, and/or the translation - 'my love’.
Q = Quality Time (how do they like to spend time with you?)
Daniel likes to take you dancing for dates, but he loves it when you dance together at home, around the kitchen or living room. He teaches you how to twirl like a pro and leads you in little dances whenever he can. He also has taught you everything Miyagi taught him about taking care of bonsai trees. You have a couple each in your home that you tend to together. You also share dinner with Mr Miyagi a handful of times a week, which is always fun and full of great conversation.
R = Rhythm (what song reminds you of them?)
'Glory Of Love’ reminds you of his protectiveness. Over you, Mr Miyagi, his family, and even your own family - who love him just as much as he does them. It makes you think of everything he has done since he met you; it’s always been for something or someone he loves. He's like a knight in shining armour from a long time ago. Every lyric screams Daniel to you, and you’ve often imagined the song playing at your - hopefully - future wedding.
S = Secrets (how open are they with you?)
Daniel is always very open with you. The only times he is a little more closed off is if he thinks a secret will hurt or upset you, then he becomes cautious. But he always ends up telling you; there are no secrets in your relationship.
T = Time (how long did it take you to get together?)
It didn’t take too long. After your first date, you went on a couple more. Including Golf 'N Stuff and then a drive-in movie, where you shared your first kiss, and - very nervously - Daniel asked you to be his girlfriend.
U = Upset (how do they act when you’re upset?)
Depending on how upset you are or the circumstance, he will try to cheer you up right away. If you need time alone, he will always give you space, but it plays on his mind until you finally decide to share what’s going on.
V = Vaunt (what are they proud of? Do they like to show you off?)
He doesn’t feel the need to 'show you off’, as proud as he is to be with you. Your kindness, loyalty, creativeness and hardworking nature are just a few of the things he is proud of, of you. He always makes sure to let you know this whenever it is necessary too.
W = Warrior (how do they feel about you fighting? Would they fight for you, beside you, etc?)
Daniel has quite a bit of trauma in his past, all of which you know about, and so he never wants to see you end up in any kind of fight. He has seen a few of your moves when he or Mr Miyagi had taught you some things for fun, so he is well aware you could hold your own in a situation, but the thought of actually seeing it brings a horrible taste to his mouth. If ever the moment came where he need to defend you, he would for sure fight for you. He would fight with you, too, if the circumstance occurred, but you imagine he would try to push you out of the way and to safety before that could happen.
X = X-Ray (how well are they able to read you?)
It’s a skill that took Daniel a while to master, but now he is pretty confident he can read you well: figure out how you are feeling, what you need, what mood you are in - etcetera.
Y = Yes (how would they propose to you?)
Your first date was on the beach, and it seems like the perfect place to propose. Daniel would not go over the top. He would want the moment to be intimate, memorable and without an audience. Maybe Daniel would lay a blanket and bring along some packed snacks. Then talk as you normally would on a date, before he could no longer bear it, finally reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small black velvet box.
Z = Zen (what makes them feel calm?)
He loves to tend to your bonsai trees when he needs to feel calm. Sometimes alone, but most of the time, you will join him. Other times, he likes to sit with you on the sofa while you comb your fingers through his hair or trace imaginary patterns across his back. He’s gotten very good at calming himself and you.
