Okay I wrote a Danissa fic which isn’t terrible, I think. Basically, this is Narcissa’s POV and less than 2000 words. It takes place about half a year after the end of Supernova. Please reblog!! [AO3 Link] [My other fics]

Nova Artino: Be there in 10 minutes.

Narcissa’s phone buzzed with the new text from Nova, causing her to pause. She quickly replied before returning her attention to tidying up her apartment.

The ten minutes went by quickly and before she knew it, Narcissa heard a knock on the door, just as she finished fluffing the cushions. She took one last look around her apartment before nodding in satisfaction and answering the door.

“Narcissa!” Nova smiled at her, an expression she was still unused to seeing on her. Adrian stood behind her, wearing a similar expression. Narcissa tried not to let her heart prick with envy.

“Come in,” she forced herself to smile, “Sorry the apartment’s such a mess.”

She led Nova and Adrian to the couch, trying not to notice how they sat so close.

“So, how are you guys?” she kept her voice light, “How’s everything going in Gatlon?”

“Great!” Adrian’s eyes lit up, “It’s been almost half a year since The Supernova so most of the rebuilding is pretty much finished.”

“There has also been talk about dismantling the Renegades,” Nova raised a meaningful eyebrow to her, “Though that’s mostly rumours.”

The conversation drifted to that as the three of them discussed whether dismantling the Renegades was a good idea. Nova and Narcissa agreed that it was probably for the best but Adrian still had his doubts.

“Well, how about the rest of your friends, how are they? Oscar? Ruby?” she glanced at her nails in an attempt to seem casual, “Danna?”

“They’re good,” Adrian smiled but then Nova nudged him slightly, “I mean they’re not that good. Kind of bad, actually.”

“What?” Narcissa’s frow burrowed.

“Not bad!” Adrian began to stammer, “They’re not bad but they’re not good but they-”

“They’re fine,” Nova cut him off mercifully then turned her brown eyes to Narcissa, “How are you?”

Narcissa could hear the concern in the question so she forced herself to brighten her smile, “I’m amazing!”

“Are you?”

“Yes, my life is going great right now,” she scrambled for a way to convince them, “I met this girl the other day and we’re going out tomorrow.”

It was a lie, easily heard in her voice. Narcissa could feel herself shrinking under the pitying gazes of Nova and Adrian so she quickly changed the subject.

The rest of the afternoon went without another mention of Danna or Narcissa’s imaginary date, thankfully. Nova and Adrian left a few hours later and Narcissa tried not to feel relieved when she closed the door behind them. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Nova and Adrian; they just brought up some painful memories.

These same memories were what filled her brain now, hitting her in full swing as she lay on her bed. Flashes of that night from five months ago began to play in her head, images so clear and polished after being relived so many times before.

It was just a month after The Supernova and people were finally starting to feel hopeful again, Narcissa included. That should have been the first warning sign.

She had been becoming fast friends with Danna but it was obvious that there was more between them. They had been dancing around the subject for a month and Narcissa was beginning to grow tired of avoiding the subject when Danna invited her over to her apartment.

It had been raining, Narcissa could almost feel the drops on her skin now. She hadn’t brought an umbrella, stupidly eager to see Danna. When she finally got to the apartment, soaking wet, Danna had laughed at her, a kind, soft laugh that made Narcissa want to smile and throw up at the same time.

Danna offered her a change of clothes, a sweater that smelled like her, and a warm cup of coffee. She gave some reason for inviting her over but they both knew that it was just an excuse to see her again. She stayed there for hours, laughing at stupid jokes that Narcissa couldn’t remember now. At one point, Danna had laughed so hard, she had turned into a swarm of orange and black butterflies, a sight that never failed to leave Narcissa breathless.

“I didn’t know you turned into butterflies when you laughed,” Narcissa remembered she had said, “It’s cute.”

“It’s embarrassing,” Danna rolled her eyes as a blush tinted her cheeks, “And they’re not butterflies, they’re lepidopterans.”

“There’s no way I can pronounce that.”

“It’s easy,” Danna had laughed, “It’s just lepi-dop-te-”

But she couldn’t finish when Narcissa cut her off with the press of her lips against hers. Danna had made a soft noise, but she hadn’t moved away. Instead, she had touched a hand to the back of Narcissa’s neck and pulled her closer, deepening the kiss.

Narcissa touched the nape of her neck now, remembering the feel of Danna’s warm fingers there all those months ago. It had been the perfect moment, something that she had only ever read about in stories.

But the stories didn’t warn her about what would happen next.

Narcissa had left Danna’s apartment feeling lightheaded and spent the entirety of the next day with the feeling. She could not stop herself from calling Danna the next afternoon, her mood deflating a little when she didn’t answer but still having hope. Stupid, naive hope.

A day went by with no answer. Two days. Three. Four.

On the fifth day, Danna broke her silence with a single text.

Danna Bell: I don’t think we should do this.

Five months later and they hadn’t spoken since. Narcissa hastily wiped the tears from her face in the present, embarrassed that she was still thinking about this. She decided the best way to clear her head would be to go on a run so she tied her red hair up into a ponytail and changed, grabbing her keys and turning her music up loud enough to drown everything out, even her thoughts.

The run is successful and by the time she gets home, Narcissa’s thoughts are far from Danna. She scrolled through her phone as she opened the door to her apartment. She had locked it behind her and was headed to the kitchen when a notification popped up at the top of her phone.

Danna Bell: Hey, how are you?

Narcissa froze. She didn’t believe her eyes at first, staring at the notification as her music faded to a dull thud. She chewed her lip as she thought of Danna, sitting in Gatlon, thinking of her. A smile began to spread over her face as she opened the message. Then her eyes fell on the message above it.

Danna Bell: I don’t think we should do this.

The months of anger hit her all over again as the smile dropped from her face. Her thumbs hovered over the keyboard for a minute, thinking of what to say. Then, without allowing herself to have a second thought, Narcissa presses the call button.

The line rings for half a second before, “Hello?”

Her voice brought back memories but instead of calming her, it only made her angrier. She could feel her emotions taking control but she didn’t try to stop them.

“‘Hey, how are you?’” Narcissa asked, “Really? After five months, that’s all you have to say to me?”

“Narcissa, listen-”

“Oh, do not even go there,” she balled her hands into fists, “You don’t get to ignore me for five fucking months and come back just to tell me to listen.”

“Cissa-”

“Absolutely not, Danna,” she could feel the tears prick at the back of her eyes, “You are not calling me ‘Cissa’ like that. What the hell is wrong with you? What type of asshole does that?”

“I’m so sorry.”

“You’re sorry?” she laughed meanly, “You’re fucking sorry? Do you know how long it took me to get over you? How much I cried over you? How many nights I lay in the dark, wondering what I did wrong?”

There’s silence on the other end.

“I can not believe that you would have the audacity to ignore me for five months and then come back and act like nothing happened,” Narcissa yelled, “I am finally forgetting about you and you just couldn’t stand it, could you?”

“Narcissa, please,” Danna’s voice broke on the other end, “I’m sorry. I did a shitty thing, a terrible thing. You didn’t deserve that, I’m so so sorry.”

But Narcissa just gave a soft laugh, “You are unbelievable, Danna Bell.”

She hung up on her without listening to another word. She paused over the block button for a moment before firmly pressing it.

She tossed her phone to the side before she could rethink it and headed to the shower to clean off the sweat from her run. She didn’t look at it again until she saw the weather outside, rain and wind tearing the street apart, to check to see when the sun would come out again but purposefully avoided any new messages.

Two hours later, the weather was still raging outside, pounding against her window loudly. So loud, Narcissa nearly missed the knock on the door. She glanced out to the dark, windy night and wondered who would be here as she walked to the door.

She opened the door to reveal Danna, completely and utterly soaked.

Danna looked at Narcissa with a small, hopeful smile, “Hi?”

“Absolutely not.”

“Wait, Narcissa,” Danna stopped her before she closed the door, “Can I at least explain?”

Narcissa considered it for a moment before crossing her arms and giving a subtle nod. Danna took a quick breath before opening her mouth to speak.

“The night you kissed me was,” a soft look spread across her face, “Amazing. I had wanted to do it for weeks by that point and when you did, I felt like I was the luckiest person alive. I mean, you? Liking me?”

She laughed, a low, beautiful sound, “I couldn’t believe how lucky I had gotten. After you left, I lay in bed thinking about you and how perfect you are and how unbelievable it was that you’d ever kiss me.”

“Yeah,” Narcissa grumbled, “Especially since you’re a jerk.”

“Especially since I’m a jerk,” she sighed, “I guess I just thought that you’d eventually realize that I’m not worth your effort. I thought the best way to avoid heartbreak would be to stop it before anything happened. It would hurt less if I never got attached, right?”

Narcissa paused then looked down, “Did it work?”

“No,” she laughs again, softer this time, “Not in the slightest.”

“Well, to be fair,” Narcissa finally made eye contact, “It was a pretty stupid plan.”

“More stupid than texting you ‘hey’ after five months of no talking?”

“Even more stupid than coming to my apartment in the middle of the night, during a thunderstorm, wearing no jacket,” Narcissa teased, smiling.

“I thought you’d let me wear your sweater if my clothes were wet,” she grinned, eyes sparkling, “And maybe some coffee?”

Narcissa laughed at that before opening the door to let Danna in, “You are unbelievable, Danna Bell.”

“But you love it,” she raised a smug eyebrow and Narcissa couldn’t help but smile softly back at her.

“But I love it.”
