                                       JODIE STARLING

  • Background:X
  • Personality: X andX
  • Appearances:X

As you all know, I have two favorite characters in DC: Jodie Starling and Shuichi Akai. But since the prompt is “favorite character” I have to choose just one, and I choose Jodie (female power!).

I want to talk about what I think of her and what I see about her when I read some topic in forums or around the Web. Many people say that Jodie after the Halloween Party has become stupid and the only thing that she does is thinking about Shuichi and crying for him. All I can say is that such people haven’t understood nothing of her character, just nothing. Let’s make just a little example of how much she’s “stupid”:

Jodie has been the only one among all the FBI agent present in that room (except from James who was the only one who knew the truth) who has come to the right conclusion about Shu’s plan. Everybody, listening to what the news said on TV, believed that the body burned to death was Shuichi’s one, but she immediately understood that he has used the body of another person. She never believed in Shu’s death, never. Even if she tried to convince herself, she knew deeply inside that he was alive, and she “fought” to discover the truth. She knew that she wasn’t acting professionally, that she was losing her abilities to think properly, but in that moment the desire to discover the truth was stronger than everything else. In my opinion, fighting for what you believe in doesn’t mean that you’re stupid, but that you’re determined and strong. So, in a few words, Jodie HAS BALLS!

Regarding the fact that before the Scarlet Arc we have seen her crying many times for Shu’s death and thinking constantly of him…I just want to ask something to all the people who says that she’s a “crybaby”: if you suddenly discover that the man you love with all your heart is death in a tragic way, and you didn’t have even the time to say goodbye to him, what would you do? A big party with a lot of colored balloons? I don’t think (at least if your persons with feelings and a heart). It’s obvious that she cries, he’s the man she loves! It doesn’t mean that she’s stupid, but only that she has feelings, like every human being. Being an FBI agent doesn’t mean necessarily to not express feelings like Shuichi does, because everyone has his/her own character, and Jodie is a sensitive person. Again, being sensitive doesn’t mean being stupid or crybaby.
Jodie is a heroine. Her parents died when she was only a child, her life has been completely turned upside down (she had to change identity, life, address and all the rest; she hadn’t friends and probably she didn’t believe enough in herself): despite this she fought with all her strength to reach her goals. She needed a hero, like all the child at that age, a strong figure that could be a life example. But she couldn’t have it. In the end she has become a hero herself.

I want to report what I wrote about Jodie once in a post for a questionnaire made by Silverbulletsama (you can find the post here: http://placebogirl7.tumblr.com/post/136770254410/help-from-my-followers):

“When I saw her for the first time acting like a woman with balls I immediately thought “She will be one of my favorite female characters!” XD I love strong but fragile women, and Jodie is one of them. She lost her family at the age of 8…I mean, this is what I call a tragedy. Generally, if a kid loses both his/her parents, it’s someone of the relatives who take care of him/her: so this kid can grow up and have a “normal” life (even if he/she misses his/her parents every day of course). But Jodie’s childhood has been different. She couldn’t have had a normal life, she spent all her childhood under a fake identity, under strict surveillance, maybe without the chance to do all the things that normal kids do. Despite this, she didn’t grow up with mental problems or complexes, but she did her best to become an FBI agent and continue the work that his father failed. She demonstrated to be a strong woman, and I admire her for this. However, she remains a woman, and we know that women has always a fragile side. She demonstrated her own fragile side when she believed that Shuichi was death. This scenario destroyed her inside, at the point that she wasn’t rational and this had an impact on her ability as FBI agent. Despite this, she continued to fight against the idea to have lost him, and she did all the necessary to find out the truth. One sentence to describe her? “A woman who will stop at nothing”.
Another thing that I like of this character is that she can be the most serious agent at work, but when she isn’t doing her job she can be the very funny and joker. The classical girl that you can’t not invite to a party! XD
I really admire this woman and I wish I could be like her one day!”

I think I’ve said enough, sorry if I annoyed you but I really love this character and I wanted to explain how beautiful she is!
