Here are few words about the book and design inspiration.

Moloka'i by Alan Brennet tells the story of Rachel Kalama, cheerful young girl living
with her family in Honolulu, Hawaii in the 1890s.
Then one day a rose-colored mark appears on her skin, and her life has been
divided on two parts after then. Rachel is sent to the isolated leper
colony on the island of Moloka'i. Here her life is supposed to end -
but instead she discovers it is only just beginning.

But Rachel’s life, though shadowed by disease, isolation, and tragedy,
is also one of joy, courage, and dignity. This is a story about life,
love, hope, strength of the human spirit.

“God didn’t give man wings; He gave him the brain and the spirit to
give himself wings. Just as He gave us the capacity to laugh when we
hurt, or to struggle on when we feel like giving up”

This quote impressed me strongly and made me thinking much. That is
why I’ve added wings-looking mosaic stitch pattern to the design.
Chosen colors support Hawaiian theme: vibrant green is for island’s
nature and it’s official color of Moloca'i; gray is for dark and
dramatic time in Rachel’s life and it’s one of Hawaiian colors too.
