So in Super Paper Mario, during the first scene with all of Count Bleck’s minions, Mimi and Dimentio have this little interaction:
At first glance, this conversation just seems like Dimentio making fun of Mimi. But what if Dimentio knew the player was watching at this moment? It’s established multiple times throughout the game that some characters are aware that Mario isn’t alone and there’s someone controlling his movements. What if Dimentio, being the master of dimensions, is one of them? What if, in this moment, he knowingly told the player that Mimi was boy crazy? What if, because Mimi was the one who walked right into that trap, Mimi unknowingly had given Dimentio a good reason to help the player out when you have to figure out who is the real Merlee? After all, two of the questions can be corelated to the mention of Mimi’s fantasy:
What guy’s your type?
Merlee’s Answer: Hee hee…I love them all, see… Nope! No type for me!
Mimi’s Answer: Oh, how can I share when… …the guy’s right there.
and
What do you want most?
Merlee’s Answer: Crystal ball. The newest kind! Nice ones are hard to find!
Mimi’s Answer: I want a boyfriend please! I’d love a guy to squeeze!
Sure, Merlee’s answers make sense since she’s a prophet/seer/whatever, but I’d like to think Dimentio, seeing an opportunity, decided to make sure we the player knew what to ask in the game show to determine who precisely is the real Merlee.
So, yeah, that’s my hot take.
TL;DR: The hot take is Dimentio gave the player a hint that Mimi is boy crazy as a way to help us out in Chapter 2-4 when we have to figure out which Merlee is the real one.
