The Roman Lighthouse near Dover Castle was for a long time considered the oldest Roman lighthouse in the world. Archeologists argue about when exactly the lighthouse was built, though they all agree about it was in the 1st century AD during the reign of the Emperor Claudius, following an earlier design made by Caligula, most likely several years after Romans came to conquer the lands.
