The little bell at the door of your bookstore chimes, indicating a new costumer. Putting away new books, you cheerfully say without looking at the door: “Welcome, let me now if you need anything.”

At the clearing of a throat you look towards the door and your eyes fall on Spencer. Your eyes widen, mouth falling open, clearly speechless. You hadn’t seen the genius for weeks. He usually came in every time he’d finished a case.

Shaking yourself free from the shock, you walk closer to him. “Hi, Spence. It’s been a while. I was starting to think you’d found a new bookstore.” You shoot him a teasing smile.

“I could never,” he chuckles, “I’ve had a lot of cases following up on one another.”

You grimaced understandingly. “That must’ve been a lot to deal with.”

He nods and you see his body take in your whole body. You were wearing a light summer dress with some white sneakers and your hair loosely fell over your shoulders.

“I’ve kept some books aside that I think you might like. They’re behind the counter, at the usual place. Do you want some coffee while you browse through them?”

“Yes, I would love some coffee,” he answers you.

You see his shoulders relax when he walks behind the counter and puts the books on the counter. You loved seeing him unwind in your bookstore. Usually, he’s browse through the rows of books and slowly his shoulders would relax and an easy smile would paint his lips. You always offered him a cup of coffee after ringing up his books and you’d talk. You’d talk about simple things or his most recent case or a terrible costumer.

“Here you go,” you whisper while setting his cup down in front of him.

“Thank you,” he answers while keeping his eyes on the tower of books he’d put on the counter.

“See anything you might take home with you,” you cheekily say while sipping your coffee. Your eyes take him in while he carefully assesses every book.

“I might,” he says while fiercely meeting your eyes like he was talking about more than just the books.

He clears his throat and redirects his focus back to his books. You feel your cheeks heat up at the implication that might’ve been hidden in his words.

You decide to distract yourself by putting the newly delivered books on the right shelve.

“I think I’ll take them all,” Spencer’s voice suddenly comes from beside you.

You jump a little and meet his eyes. They’re crinkled at the edge and amusement shines in them.

“Spence, you scared me.”

Spencer laughs aloud and it’s the most beautiful laugh you’ve ever heard. You’re mesmerised. Shaking your head as to clear the fog created by his laugh, you walk towards the register.

“You making up for lost time by buying everything?”

“Maybe or maybe all of your picks were what I was looking for,” he winked. He actually winked.

Spencer had never been this bold before.

“You’re getting cheeky, Dr. Reid,” you responded.

Blush danced over his cheeks.

“Do you want to go to dinner tonight?” he blurted out in one breath. The pink spreading even more.

You felt your own cheeks heat up. “I would love to, Spence,” you answer him.
