The SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen is celebrating their 54th anniversary by celebrating Arne Jacobsen - the master designer of this modernist masterpiece, and the Egg™ and the Swan™ chair - both were created specifically for the hotel.
Arne Jacobsen designed The Egg in 1958 for Fritz Hansen to be used in the lobby and reception areas of the Royal Hotel, in Copenhagen. The Egg sprang from a new technique, which Jacobsen was the first to use; a strong foam inner shell underneath the upholstery. Like a sculptor, Jacobsen strove to find the shell’s perfect shape in clay at home in his own garage.
