i’ve just found about synthetic quartz, which like, i knew it existed, but the way they make it is by holding a 50ft tower full of quartz slurry and corrosive chemicals at extremely high pressures and temperatures for like 5 months. and this produces a single, 50ft tall, quartz crystal. which they then… just… cut into slices?? this is, of course, in ideal circumstances, assuming the whole thing doesn’t explode which is the consumer safety board incident report i’m watching
