The House at Pooh Corner

SomeShepard-related posts by Kate Beaton prompted me to search for images of these three volumes. E.H. Shepard illustrated this series of books for Bell and Sons – abridged versions of Boswell’s Life of Dr JohnsonandPepys’s Diary, and selections from Lamb’s writings. The Shepard illustrations are perfect; rich in detail and evocative in character. The cover for the volume of Lamb shows the writer surrounded by the products of his pen – including a tiny pig from the famous essay. (Image from Toovey’s)
