What if Virgile had stayed with NetWatch a few more years?
He would have proposed to Evelyn to be with him, offering her what she wanted, all the comfort she dreamed of ! She would then have left the Clouds, tried again an acting career before becoming a businesswoman. She would have opened another dollhouse, of better standing, with better working conditions for the dolls and of course, better security thanks to her netrunner lover.
If she got what she wanted, Virgile would remain torn between his hatred for his work and all the self-destruction it brings, and his love for Evelyn. He would become more closed, colder to protect himself outside of his life with Eve. Those who would meet him with and without her would see the difference.
But Virgile wouldn’t be in his element in this corpo world, he would suffer for Eve’s happiness, to the detriment of his own.
