lisasemz:

An insult I took as a badge of pride. The Dread Wolf inspired hope in my friends, and fear in my enemies. Not unlike Inquisitor, I suppose.
And now you know. What is the old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf Take You?

One thing Tresspasser never cleared up for me is why spirits and demons couldn’t explain everything to future generations. Surely some academic mage or historical scholar would wanna interview a spirit of wisdom about the fall of Arlathan.

Come to think of it, somebody should have accounts about the time before the Veil. Dalish elves can remember they used to be immortal, but not that this barrier keeping the Fade back is new? Surely Tevinter would have kept records on this stuff, or there would be something in the dwarven Memories.

What do you guys think?

I think the problem with the spirits not telling people about it is with something Solas says once. They didn’t see what really happened. They saw mortals’ perceptions of what happened. Get a couple spirits in a room and you will have a dozen wildly different accounts of the exact same event. That, and the only person that we know of who would actually think to ask spirits about this is Solas, who is not fond of the idea of communication in general. The Chantry’s teachings, I think, stop most other people from even realizing that could possibly be an option and if they did, they’d think it was too dangerous. Any academic mage curious enough would probably be pretty scared of trying to contact demons, after all. The Chantry doesn’t notice the difference between spirits and demons, so nobody would know of a safe way to do so, and it’s not like Solas is going to ever be teaching anybody how.

As for other records, I think those just kinda got lost over time. Dalish history has been distorted, probably due to them having to pass it down orally. A lot of the dwarven Memories have probably been lost due to the darkspawn. Tevinter doesn’t have as much of an excuse, but they might have lost or misinterpreted or rewritten history.
