Freshly gunpowdered up fantasy world, you know the type, but the gunpowder isn’t chemical in nature, it’s enchanted.  This has a set of side-effects, particularly with regards to the smoke.

1. Mildly psychadelic.  Battlefields become utterly unmanageable, even beyond the normal extents of battlefields, as soldiers slowly lose their minds, and in the worst cases, become unable to tell friend from foe.  In the worst cases, the battle doesn’t end until there’s only one survivor.  Gas masks are invented out of necessity not long after the advent of firearms.

2. Still magical after being detonated.  The whole zone can stay fucked up for months if you’re not careful.  You know how summoners might burn incense?  Imagine that, but a hundred times stronger; the fabric of the world is begging to be torn open, and lightning crackles eagerly at the fingertips of those with even the slightest magical affinity.

3. Still combustible.  You hear about industrial fires with aerosolized powders exploding?  You know how I just said it’s really easy to create explosive magical effects?  The blowback can be catastrophic, and one unlucky casting can wipe out both you, and everyone around you.  This may or may not be a minor risk regarding the firearms themselves.

So you’re in the field, and you can’t trust your senses, surrounded by people whose natural magical abilities have amplified to unsafe levels, and if they’re not extremely careful they’ll blast you to pieces by accident, if your gun doesn’t do it first.
