This was my winter project. I still have a ways to go, but I like how it’s coming out. I want it to be a place where I can comfortably spend a good amount of time doing what I enjoy doing. I can’t wait until it’s done, but I’ll have to put it on hold for a while because I have a lot of work outside to do. So I’ll probably pick it back up again this fall.

Before I started on the floor I took two cement blocks, then set them on a level surface 36″ apart on center. Then I placed a piece of 1x6 (5 quarter) decking board across them and stepped in the middle of the board to see if there was a noticeable give as I shifted my weight around. It seemed very solid, so I laid out the floor supports accordingly. After I applied three or four rows I checked again for any kind of give, and I did notice there was enough of a give to cause concern. So I clamped a 2x4 to the middle (18″ on center) then screwed the floorboards to it. Tieing them all together making the floor very solid. I also used 2x2s and had the same exact result. Knowing how much work it is to dig the trenches, fill them with cement and level the supports I couldn’t be happier on how it turned out.
