Leverage: RedemptionS01E09

The Same Bed: Part One: Jake|Part Two: Krista|Part Three: Chris|Part Four: Vincent|Part Five: Antoni|Interlude|Part Six: Nat | Part Seven: Owen

-

Owen studies her face while she speaks. Brown hair streaked with silver falls loose around her shoulders, tangled from the events of the night. He’s placed the phone on the table between them, and although she doesn’t have to - it’s on speaker - she leans forward slightly as if to ensure she’ll be heard. There are crow’s-feet lines around the edges of her eyes, laugh lines around her mouth, age settling in around her jaw and the line of her neck.

She looks up at him, flashing eyes that burn with hatred, but Owen only smiles back at her. She was probably pretty - she still could be, there are treatments to take care of those wrinkles, to smooth away the lines and to plump up those thinning lips.

He gets the sense, though, that being pretty is the least of this woman’s interests in life.

What does Vince see in her, anyway?

He slides a piece of paper across the table, and he watches her eyes flicker down to it and then back up again. “He’s giving me an-… an address,” She says, voice quiet and calm. Her eyes narrow as Owen gestures, and she adds, “He-… wants you to write it down.”

“Why can’t he speak for himself?”

Kauri’s voice is wavering, but audible, and Owen feels saliva flood his mouth at the sound. He’s been looking for his beautiful little whore for so long, and here he is, close enough to hear, not yet close enough to touch.

Natalie Yoder looks at him, waiting, but Owen only shakes his head. “I-I don’t know, but he won’t. He’s shaking his head. Um, do you have-… something to write with-”

“Antoni is getting something,” Kauri says. There’s a silence, heavy with weight and meaning, that stretches out between them all. Owen has always thought people who got more than one pet were idiots taking on too much responsibility, but he gets it now - the idea of so many people dancing to his tune, taking his direction so the scene plays out as planned, yeah. It’s as much fun to do this in a house as it would be on set.

Natalie Yoder licks her lips. “Kauri, is Keira there?”

“Always,” Kauri answers. Owen’s eyebrows furrow at he listens to an odd clicking sound, mechanical. He mouths who’s keira but Natalie Yoder isn’t looking at him.

That name’s familiar, right? Has he heard that name before?

“Good. Okay, glad you have her with you. You and she have always been hand in hand.” There’s an odd emphasis to those last three words. Owen doesn’t like that, he doesn’t like that at all.

He leans forward, and smacks his hand into the tabletop. Natalie Yoder jumps in surprise, then glares at him. Her hair falls in her face and he thinks, briefly, of Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween’s most recent movie, the older woman steeled with hatred.

Jamie Lee worked with Owen, once, on a documentary she narrated. He heard later on she thought he was too exacting for too little in results, but whatever, the movie did well and made money.

He mouths don’t use fucking code, and Natalie Yoder rolls her eyes at him, as if she’s not afraid at all.

Bitch.

Kauri is quiet for a second, but then he just says, “I’ve got the pen and paper. Antoni’s going to write it for me, my-… my hands won’t hold anything right now. I can’t see… words.”

Those hands must be shaking, Owen thinks, and smiles. Good. They should be shaking, Kauri ran away from him and thought he could just… stay gone, and now he’s going to learn that it doesn’t fucking work that way.

Natalie Yoder reads out the address piece by piece, slowly, checking to make sure they’ve taken it down accurately. At the end, she reads the time, too. “Kauri, honey-”

Owen leans over. For the first time, he speaks, exactly as planned.

“You have fifteen hours before our meeting time,” He says, keeping his voice low. “Then I had best see you there alone, Kor-Bore, or you don’t see Ms. Yoder or the little pitbull she brought with her again.”

“If I meet you-” Kauri stops, and there’s a pause. Then he tries again. “If I meet you, you’ll take me. I won’t s-see her again anyway.”

“No, that’s true, you’re right. But, hey, look.” Owen tips his head to one side. “Don’t you want the dicks you’ve been riding to get the chance to see her again, at least? You being a little slut passing yourself around shouldn’t mean anyone has to die foryou, right? I mean, you’re not worth that, are you?”

Another pause. Sounds in the background, a low deep voice spitting invective, just far enough away that Owen can’t understand what he’s saying. He grins, knowing someone over there is nice and pissed off and can’t do a fucking thing about it.

Finally, Kauri comes back on the line. “I’ll be there, Owen.”

“Don’t you mean Mr.-”

“No. I don’t. Not yet.”

Kauri hangs up.

Owen wonders why he didn’t just… untie that.
Maybe he can’t.
Like… psychologically.
That’s fun.

Owen is a sick, sick man…

Vince doesn’t have to last more than a few days, really.

Oh damn… Ok, we always knew he would end up killing Vince nad Kauri eventually, but the fact that it’s his intentionnow??

“I hope you know… What I’m going to do to him, baby? How I’m going to get Kauri on my dick and then slit his fucking throat while you watch?”
“It’s going to be all your fucking fault.”

Jesus Christ!

Wow, ok, you were right this one is fucking intense. Something about seeing things through Owen’s eyes when he’s this fucking gone is just so very disturbing. Wow, what a chapter, I swear to God!
