Just a short comic I did about our recent visit to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. The new display had some rarely presented sketches and concept arts done by Hayao Miyazaki for the many past exhibitions that happened in the museum’s history.

I was excited most about some original comic pages that were a part of this exhibit too. Up until now, comics were presented mostly as enlarged and digitally enhanced copies, so I was thrilled to see some pencil, ink, and watercolor originals this time.

Of course, the technical aspects of how Miyazaki makes them interest me a lot, so I spent a long time glued to the glass (unlike most exhibits these were behind glass). Also, because we were going to buy some furniture later, I had a tape measure with me. Now we know the exact size of these original pages too: 33 by 25 cm on thick but not textured paper (I think it might be the paper used by the backgrounds artists also, so probably TMK Poster super-thick - you can buy it in Sekaido in Shinjuku).

Unfortunately, you can not take pictures inside the museum building, so I guess we have to go there again soon to stare at the pages some more.
