Having completed my Tenth Doctor earrings, I wanted to do something to celebrate the current incarnation of the Doctor, especially since I love Matt Smith in the role. Initially I was thinking a bowtie and fez, but fez charms are surprisingly rare and surprisingly expensive, so to keep the cost reasonable I decided to fall back on Eleven’s second favorite choice of headwear: the Stetson. This is probably one of my simpler and less obvious designs, but I’m nevertheless pleased with how they came out.

This was probably the first design idea I had, although obviously not the first one I made. *g* I bought a bracelet made of blue goldstone beads because I thought they looked like they had tiny galaxies swirling in them, and I remember mentioning off-handedly to a friend that a blue goldstone bead plus a clock charm would handily represent the TARDIS. It took a while–and the right combination of bead and charm–before the idea actually became a reality, though. I’m really proud of this one, and so far it’s proved the most popular item in my collection for in-person sales (possibly because the starry sparkle is more evident in person than it is in a photo *g*).

I don’t remember as clearly how I came up with this one, except that it was probably continuing the trend of making pieces for my favorite female superheroes. I do remember the moment I knew I could pull it off: when I found those blue beads with the silver stars on them. *g* The eagle, the chain and the jump rings are all bronze, which gives the impression of the gold on her costume but also seems appropriate for a character whose origins trace back to Bronze Age Greek myth. :-)

And here is the point where I started deliberately branching out into Doctor Who! I found these cute little Converse sneaker charms, and naturally had to make something of ‘em. The pins are “striped” (pin-striped, yep, I went there) with larger brown and smaller blue beads to replicate the pattern of Ten’s suit, and as a bonus bit of geekery, there are five beads on each pin, so that the pair of earrings is made with a total of ten beads. ;-)

My second design, which was basically the successful version of what I’d been trying to accomplish with the first one (although I still love that one too, all the more for how multi-purpose it is! *g*). The little miniature bullets on the end were chosen for two reasons: one, to make it clearer that this is for Black Widow the character, not just a black widow spider *g*, and two, because they’re almost the color that her widow’s bites are in the comic illustrations I’ve seen. I love wearing these and just wish I had an excuse to wear them more often! *g*

My very first design, both variations, and the inspiration for the name of my shop.

This one eventually wound up in a very different place than it started. I’d never even really heard of Black Widow before I saw The Avengers (most of my comics education was Silver Age DC from my uncle’s stash when I was a kid *g*) so when I came out of the movie a huge fan, it was both a surprise and a disappointment to discover how little merch there was for her. So, I went to my local craft store looking for triangular beads I could make into an hourglass, and this was the closest I found. So you could say that *technically* it’s a Black Widow necklace. But, as a fellow Whovian friend of mine pointed out when I showed it to her, two hearts in an hourglass shape also makes a great Time Lord necklace, so it can function as either one! :-) And as yet another Whovian friend pointed out, if you’re an Eleven fan, it also makes a great sideways bow-tie! ;-)
