So @giannis_an34 is suing me for trademark infringement. This is happening in New York. Not here in Wisconsin. So here’s the thing.
Last year, I designed some shirts in honor of @giannis_an34 becoming the MVP of the NBA and you getting the Milwaukee Bucks to the finals, something that hasn’t been done in a long time. We appreciate what he’s doing and has done for the city and we are forever grateful.
To make this clear, we were not trying to monetize off of @giannis_an34. These were just fan made shirts. His attorney’s are under the impression that we sold hundreds of shirts. We only sold 17. Yes. You read it correct. 17 shirts. We didn’t make a profit either. It wasn’t our goal to make a profit. It was to represent our city. And our family and friends wanted to be apart of that.
A bit about myself. I grew up here in Milwaukee. I worked at the Bradley Center in high school. I was there when the Bucks went to the conference finals to face the 76er’s in the 2000 - 2001 season. I still feel like we got cheated. I have a degree in Graphic Design. I work for a non-profit organization called COA (Children’s Outing Association). Donte Divincenzo actually visited one of out locations last year. I teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). I’ve worked with kids for over 18 years now. I am also building a tech company called LikeMinds. We connect talented students with startups and small businesses for contract projects. I am telling you all of this because we clearly were not trying to make money off of your “likeness” as your attorney puts it. We don’t have the money to hire a lawyer and can’t afford the settlement that Lydia is requesting that we pay. We immediately took down the shirts from our site when a cease and desist letter was sent over to us. We actually took in down the same day.
I’m not really sure why this is happening but it is straight wack. I will keep everyone updated as this goes on.
