- Candy and Grenda give Pacifica stickers and and scribbled drawings of their adventures and weird little origami monsters, and Pacifica keeps every single one of them and definitely doesn’t cry about it, okay?
- Candy is the one who keeps the journal, and it’s this chaotic mess of glued-in notepaper and pressed specimens and photographs jammed in haphazardly (some of the photographs are of monsters. Some of them are just of the three of them making faces.)
- Mabel made the actual book, and it’s bound less like Ford’s journals and more like a scrapbook. When the trio talk to the twins, Dipper calls it a journal and Mabel calls it a SCRAPBOOK OF MYSTERY!
- Eventually Melody makes the three of them matching shirts. They’re purple, and have three question marks on the front and the words “Mystery Trio” on the back. Pacifica gets them tailored, but it’s not like it’s a big deal, she insists. She does that with all her clothes and she can’t be seen hanging out with people whose shirts don’t fit.
- The other high schoolers laugh at them at first, but it turns out that high school is a lot less difficult when one person in your friend group can punch out wood trolls, one of them got most of her mechanical knowledge from a man who responds to personal slights with 20-ton death robots, and the third has spent most of her life communicating primarily in condescending one-liners.
(Soos voice) YES!
Melody was the first person to actually say “you guys are like, the Mystery Trio!” (”Dude, I was thinking the same thing!” Soos says from the corner.) Pacifica grimaces at the name at first, but eventually has a “I’ve come to accept it” scene that parallels Dipper’s.
McGucket acts as an occasional consultant to the girls, usually on issues of machines and engineering. At first, Pacifica is very, very cold to him. Both because she resents him for taking up in her family’s home, and simply on principle for him being a weird hillbilly. McGucket slowly warms her up to him the same way Mabel did-by being a sweet, welcoming cinnamon roll.
Also, a few months after the girls start consulting with him he leaves behind a present for Pacifica–it’s a box with a few fancy combs and scarves and old photos that she’d left behind in the NW Mansion attic, that’s she’d completely forgotten about and SHE’S NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING.
Speaking of storyboards, I just looked through some old practice boards I did based on a tumblr post saying there should be a GF short of Ford doing an educational science video that goes horribly wrong.
Dunno if it’ll get finished, but let’s just say the board I left it on captures the general gist:
*insert every Cave Johnson science quote here*
Update: I am in fact continuing that storyboard. Please enjoy the latest frame:
