Don’t you love a good #greenhouse? - I do. I’d much rather be in one right now than here with frozen toes and a dry nose. My plants probably feel uncannily similar. http://bit.ly/2CKC8tM
Ignore the tag; it’s for an orchid that’s not pictured here: #cynorkisfastigiata. The #sonerila in front is what I was really after. I wish I could grow these, but they’re hard to find in the US (even online) and I highly doubt I could do it justice without a proper greenhouse for high humidity. Will have to continue admiring from afar for now. http://bit.ly/2RT8GvK
It’s been a while since I’ve posted any of my own plants. Here’s #Monstera subpinnata. This one was almost lost, but I managed to save a cutting, plant it in sphagnum moss, and it’s been happy ever since. In fact, I’ve had such awesome results with transplanting cuttings to sphagnum (in amber jars like this one) that I have quite a few small things growing in this format now. ~ Otherwise, honestly, it hasn’t been a good fall/winter. I do feel happy for the 100+ things that are doing fine, but in 2018 I’d lost a few more plants that had been growing wonderfully for years, only to fail suddenly for various reasons (moving them, over-watering even once, broke one, etc.) One was a rare philodendron I’m still feeling awful about. I wish I had photos of them from when they were flourishing. ~ I’m also at max capacity light-source-wise, to the point that I have dreams that I’m living somewhere with more windows. So, I’ve been trying to just enjoy and care for what I have and haven’t added anything new in many months. ~ That’s where I’m at. A mixture of contentment and sadness. What about you? http://bit.ly/2AVtecG
#雪吊り (yuki-tsuri) is a technique used to protect trees from heavy snow. Rope & bamboo-supported trees like this one are ubiquitous in #Hakodate — a curious sight if you’re unfamiliar with the practice. - What I loved most, though, was seeing the piles of puffy snow that looked exactly like those painted by ukiyo-e masters like #Hokusai and #Hiroshige. If you’d never seen the inspiration in person, you might think their snow was exaggerated. But no, the reality is that delightful. http://bit.ly/2Amp9hu
Finally finished moving years of photos off of Flickr. - Where to next? Well, if you have quality stuff you don’t mind offering up for free, @unsplash is a great website/resource for #CreativeCommons photography. As an AD I use CC imagery often so I don’t mind giving some back, too. I’ll be uploading more there. - For storage, 1. flash drives are so freaking CHEAP now! A 128 GB USB 3.0 thumb drive is like $20. If that. 2. If you already have Amazon Prime, unlimited photo storage is completely free (videos and other files are limited to 5GB, but the next tier up is 100GB for an extra $12/year which is amazing). - #glasgowbotanicgardens #scotshots #greenhousehunters #greenery_scenery #culturetrip #searchwandercollect #acanthusmagazine https://ift.tt/2R9BDT7
