Lots of light? Yes, an unobstructed view of the sky floods this hallway with light.
Lots of sun? Not really. There’s a patch of direct sun that moves across the walls/floors. The parasol helps to diffuse the direct sun so these tropical foliage plants don’t burn or wilt permanently.

Think about direct sun separate from the view of the sky and you will begin to understand the daily/seasonal variations of light. Treat them as the same thing, and you’ll be confused.

2) I noticed the tip of a developing leaf was unable to break through its sheath. I think it would have eventually ripped through but probably not without resulting in significant deformation so I helped it along. Has this ever happened to you?

An hour or two of direct sun on this staghorn fern is acceptable but then the plant would reach critical dryness faster, meaning that I would have to water sooner (and yes, I have to take the whole plant down, run it in the shower, wait for it to stop dripping, and then carefully lift it back onto the hook).

Light modifier: a white sheer curtain to diffuse direct sun. It’s a great way to lessen the heat stress on your plants that prefer “bright indirect light” (no need to do this for cacti).

2) In a nursery growing tropical foliage plants, shade cloth is used for the same purpose.

Staghorn fern watering strategy: given adequate lighting, I just feel the sphagnum moss. When it reaches the point of feeling dry but still soft, then I can water sometime within the week. If I wait longer, the moss becomes hard: that’s the WATER IMMEDIATELY signal.

I’ve visited Black Spur last weekend and it’s sad to see some of these beautiful trees laying down on the ground after the last wind storm the place was affected badly! Please, check the government warning before traveling up there, it’s scary to think about someone facing that storm

I got this #Philodendron ‘White Wizard’ (not 'White Knight’; different) about 3 years back and it’s never had much variegation at all — like one small stripe of white, and that leaf died off long ago. But this one unfurled fully this morning.

If you’ve heard the news about #Flickr (see previous post) and want another option, there are plenty of lists online detailing the best cloud storage and galleries, but here’s my take:

For online galleries/portfolios, let me give you some ⭐ super-awesome secret pro tips wow! ⭐ I’m an art director and the places I look for pro photographers to hire are sites like @wonderfulmachine and @womenphotograph; sometimes @500px or even IG. Not @flickr for many reasons, incl: it’s been dead for years, many profiles are not filled out well, and I don’t know if a user will get back to me quickly enough. So if you want to show off your work and get hired, use those aforementioned services. Illustrators: get yourself on @behance, @artstationhq, etc. Use tags wisely. Photographers: listing your location is really important!

For storage: I thought I’d move to Google Photos since I’m already using many Google/Android products. Unfortunately, I’ve encountered significant problems and missing features in Google Photos and Drive. But I’ll save my requests and complaints for their Dev team.
