Grey Mouse Lemur

This small lemur, named for it’s small mouse-like size, only inhabits the island of Madagascar. These small creatures are Madagascar’s most abundant small mammal.

Grey mouse lemurs are nocturnal and spend the day sleeping in holes of trees lined with dead leaves and twigs. Females can lay dormant in their tree holes for several months to conserve energy. The lemurs forage independently, however, have groups they sleep with. You can find up to fifteen lemurs sleeping in one tree hole.

Their diet mostly consists of insects, but they also eat fruit, flowers, and small vertebrates.

Deforestation is a threat to the grey mouse lemur, like most animals. However, due to their adaptive skills, a change in an environment doesn’t effect them much. Because of this, the grey mouse lemur is among the least threatened of the lemurs.
