Because I haven’t seen anyone talk about this GreySam moment, let me quick get my thoughts out there on it because I think that this is their most important interaction in the whole game thus far.
At first glance, you might think that Grey is asking her questions literally since she’s also trying to help Sam recover her memories from her time in the Dark Aether. However I think what she’s really trying to ask Sam is has anybody ever looked after you? Have you ever felt that kind of love from somebody? Anybody? Ever?
And the fact that Sam’s answer bothers Elizabeth so much she essentially has to excuse herself from the room is so telling. Her heart could be damn well breaking for Sam in that moment- and if it was, there’s a good chance Sam noticed.
Now let me try and expand upon this a little bit further- and this might be a bit of a controversial take- but I think that’s why Grey eventually agreed to give Sam her comms link. Even though Grey herself was extremely uncomfortable about the idea- I think she was trying to prove a point to Sam. That it’s safe to expect at least one person to look after her- and that person is Dr. Elizabeth Grey.
