My Top 10 Music Countdown - #7: The Beatles

The Beatles have been written about and documented so much that I’m not sure I can add anything about the band itself that hasn’t already been said a hundred times before - about their innovation, their gigantic influence on popular music as we know it, etc… but, as far as what I personally love about them: the Beatles themselves are fascinating, George Harrison is easily my favorite. Also, I admire their huge range of musical styles - I find it weird when someone says they don’t like the Beatles, because they seriously have something for everyone. Dreamy romantic songs, angry and loud songs, funny songs about weird characters, completely bizarre and psychedelic songs that transport you to another dimension…you name it, and there’s a Beatles song for that!

Their songs have layers and layers of elements to enjoy, and I seem to always notice something new every time I listen, whether it’s in the lyrics or the musicianship and production. If I was asked who I think is the greatest band of all time, I wouldn’t give it a second thought - it’s the Beatles! The only reason they aren’t higher on my list is because my ranking for this drawing challenge is more about what the artists personally mean to me, more so than which band is more…“legendary”, I guess? I wish I’d grown up with the Beatles, but I didn’t begin to appreciate them until about the time I started college - ever since then though, I’ve absolutely loved them.

My favorite songs, though it’s really hard to choose just a few: While my Guitar Gently Weeps, the Medley from “Abbey Road”, Hey Jude, And I Love Her, Strawberry Fields Forever, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Something, Here Comes the Sun.
