a/n:You’re a Gryffindor for the sake of this fic, but there’s a choice for which house you were against in the match, hope that’s okay!! :)

“Hey, Harry.” You stand behind your teammate, waiting for a reply.

Harry turns slightly to look up at you. He swallows a mouthful of pudding before responding. “Uh- hello… Y/N.”

You smile, then point to his sling. “You alright?”

Harry looks like a malfunctioning robot as he looks down at his arm, up at you, then at his arm again. “I’m… uh, fine. Are you?”

You glance down at your bandaged knee. Harry looks too, but when your eyes land on him, he pretends to look at his plate instead.

“I’m great. I’m used to taking beatings out there. I always seem to be a target for the *opposite house choice*’s. Anyway, you got it worse, Potter.”

“Eh…” Harry shrugs. “I’ll be fine in a few days.”

You nod. “Hopefully. Good game, though, right?”

“Yeah.. you- you were great.”

“But was I the one who caught the snitch?” You grin and then reach into your pocket, pulling out a folded piece of paper. “Here. You’ve been avoiding me lately, Harry. So, we’re going to meet up later, yeah?”

Harry stutters. “Sorry- yeah, I- um… okay.”

“Okay?”

Harry nods. You laugh and then bend down to plant a kiss on his unharmed cheek. “See you later.” You have a slight limp as you walk away, smirking.

“In today’s class, we will each take turns to look into the Mirror Of Erised,” announced Professor Lupin. “Those of you who want to may choose to share with the class. However, you are not obligated to do so.”

The class formed a line in front of the Mirror, chattering among themselves. Y/N stuck close by Hermione, just behind them was Harry and Ron.

“Hey, Y/N,” Harry whispered.

Y/N turned to see what Harry wanted. “Yeah?”

“I dare you to pretend you see Malfoy’s dad in the Mirror.”

Ron snickered. “That’ll piss him right off.”

“Give me 5 Galleons and I will.” Y/N said.

Harry rummaged in his pocket and gave Y/N a handful of gold coins. Turning back around, Y/N smirked to herself as she put the Galleons in her pocket.

Before long, it was Y/N’s turn. She looked around for Draco, who was sulking over by his table close to the front of the class. She took a deep breath and willed herself not to crack a smile.

She looked into the Mirror.

“What do you see, Y/N?” Ron asked, trying to suppress laughter.

“Draco,” Y/N said wistfully, and the chattering quietened. “Is that your dad?”

The whole class, except for Draco himself, burst into laughter. Even Neville (who had looked as if he were about to cry since he had looked into the Mirror).

“Alright, that’s enough, Y/N.” Professor Lupin said although he looked as though he was amused too.

At the end of class, Harry, Hermione, Ron and Y/N were still laughing about it as they walked down the corridor. The four of them roared with laughter until Draco called out from behind them.

“Oi, Y/N!” He called. Followed by his goons, he was fast approaching the group. He stopped right up close in Y/N’s face. “My father will hear about this, you filthy blood-traitor.”

Y/N smirked at Draco. “Oh, good. Tell him I said hi.” She quipped.

With a scowl, Draco whirled around and stormed off, his goons trailing behind him, shooting death glares at Y/N.

When she turned to look at the group, the trio looked as if they were about to burst. Ron laughed first, and the other two followed soon after. Y/N also couldn’t contain her laughter.

-

It was an exceptionally hot day. Y/N and the trio were walking around the school grounds, making the most of the weekend’s heatwave.

“Hey, Y/N!” Called a voice from behind.

The four turned to see where the voice came from. Fred and George were bounding towards them across the green.

“We’ve got a dare for you,” said Fred

Y/N was used to Fred and George daring her to do stuff they know will get her in trouble if she got caught. She was sure this would be no different.

“Oh, yeah?” She said. “What is it?

"Jump in the lake,” George said, nodding towards the Black Lake that was currently glistening in the midday sun.

Y/N had to admit, the lake looked cool and inviting in the heat. And who was she to turn down a dare?

“Alright, I will if you do.” She said back.

And that’s how Y/N, Fred and George ended up climbing out of the Black Lake while Professor McGonagall shouted at them. The three Gryffindors were dripping onto the parched grass.

“Fred, George, I didn’t exactly expect better of you,” McGonagall scowled. “But Y/N….I didn’t expect much different of you either actually. Go and dry yourselves off and come straight to my office!”

Y/N jabbed an elbow into both Weasley twins on either side of her. “Nice one, dickheads.” She grumbled, but she wasn’t really angry at them. She’d been to McGonagall’s office enough times now.

She stalked her way into the building, leaving Harry, Ron and Hermione to walk the grounds some more. As she entered the castle, a white-blonde head walked past her.

Y/N had forgotten about the dare with the Mirror until just now. Truthfully, she felt a little bad about it. Chasing him down, she called out his name.

“Draco! Hey, Draco!”

The blonde-haired boy turned around to see Y/N heading in his direction. He scowled, rolled his eyes and turned back around to carry on walking.

“Wait!” Y/N called. "I didn’t mean it. I didn’t see your dad in the Mirror. It was a joke, Harry dared me to do it.”

By now, Draco had once again turned to face Y/N. “Why are you wet?” Draco asked with a disgusted expression.

“Fred and George dared me to jump in the lake.” Y/N explained.

“Do you always do whatever someone dares you to?”

Y/N thought. “Nine times out of ten, yeah.”

Y/N had never been this close to Draco before. She had never realised how beautiful he was, in such a delicate way. He smelled of mint and cologne, and his eyes were a sombre grey.

“Well then,” he drawled. “I dare you…

"Y/N!” Y/N spun around. “Come on, McGonagall’s office.”

“Alright!” Y/N yelled back to Fred and George. She turned back to Draco, who despite being interrupted, looked rather amused. “Ask me later?”

“I will.”

-

Many of Y/N’s study periods were spent in the library with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Today was no exception. Despite Y/N getting in trouble a lot for causing mischief, she was a very bright student who always got high marks.

Around them, students were whispering amongst themselves about the Summer Ball that was coming up to mark the end of the school year.

“Y/N,” Ron whispered. “Fred and George say they saw you talking to Malfoy the other day.”

Y/N looked up from her textbook. “Yeah, I was. I felt bad about the joke we played on him.”

“Why, he’s an arsehole.” Harry chimed in, not looking up from his parchment.

“He’s not an arsehole. You don’t know what he’s got going on at home.”

Harry looked up now, his eyes shooting daggers at Y/N. “Neither do you.”

“Well no, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.”

Hermione had either been so immersed in her reading that she hadn’t been listening, or she was listening to the whole thing but not speaking up. That usually meant she was on Y/N’s side but didn’t want to upset Harry or Ron.

“Why?” Ron asked, taking Harry’s side. “He wouldn’t do that for you.”

Y/N was amazed by how uncompassionate the boys were being. “Treat people how you want to be treated, not the way they treat you.”

With that, she rolled up her parchment, picked up her textbook and left.

As she stalked down the corridor, from behind, she felt someone grab her wrist. Stopping to turn around, she had expected it to be Hermione, who always acted at the peace-keeper. Instead, Y/N was surprised to see Draco.

“I heard what you said,” he admitted, letting go of her wrist. “No one’s ever stood up for me before.”

Y/N just shrugged. She hadn’t realised Draco was even in the library.

“Do you have a date to the Ball yet?” He asked.

Y/N shook her head. “No, why?”

“Then I dare you to be my date to the Ball.”

“Draco,” Y/N said. “If you want me to go to the ball with you, you can just ask.”

Draco shook his head. “Not like that, just to piss off Potter.”

If it was only a dare, then there was no harm in saying yes. Besides, she was annoyed at Harry. And what better way to get back at him than to go to the Ball with Draco. He would get over it eventually.

“Alright, I’ll do it.”

-

“You won’t believe it.” Hermione announced as she came into the Gryffindor Common Room, where Harry and Ron were ‘studying’.

“What?” asked Ron.

“Cedric asked Y/N to the Summer Ball.”

“No way!” cried Harry in astonishment.

Hermione shook her head. “She said no.”

“WHAT?” Harry and Ron exclaimed simultaneously.

“She said someone’s already asked her,” Hermione revealed.

The three of them looked at each other in shock. They knew about Y/N’s small, little crush on Cedric, and couldn’t believe she had said no to him. More importantly, she hadn’t told them about who she was going with.

“Who on Earth is better for her than Cedric?” Harry asked. “You don’t…you don’t think she’s going with Malfoy, do you?

"Of course not!” cried Hermione. “Unless…Ron, have Fred and George dared her to do it?”

Ron shrugged. “Not that I know of.”

While the trio discussed who might have dared Y/N to go the Ball with, Y/N headed back to the Coom Room from her lesson with Snape.

“Well, that was atrocious.” Y/N said as she climbed through the portrait hole. The trio looked in Y/N’s direction shiftily. “What?”

“Y/N,” said Hermione. “You’re not going to the Ball with Malfoy are you?”

Y/N dropped her bag on the floor and plopped onto the sofa opposite. “Yeah, why?”

“Why would you do that?!” Harry lashed out.

“He asked me, and I said yes.”

All three Gryffindors looked in horror at Y/N, as if she had killed someone. Y/N decided not to tell the trio that Draco had dared her to go with him because truthfully, there was a part of Y/N that wanted to go with him.

“Have you considered that it could be a joke? So he can make fun of you?” Hermione asked, being the reasonable one.

“Of course I have,” Y/N lied. She hadn’t considered that. “And if that turns out to be the case, I have a few tricks up my sleeve, okay?”

Y/N hadn’t even thought of the possibility that Draco could have been repaying the joke on her. With only one more sleep until the Ball, Y/N had to come up with some kind of plan in case that happened.

-

Y/N was going to be so pissed if she had spent all this time getting ready just for this whole thing to be a joke. She’d spent hours putting on makeup and styling her hair. She matched her dress with Draco’s house, a beautiful emerald satin gown with a slit in the leg. She had painted her nails, shaved her legs and slipped on some matching heels.

Despite who she was going with, the trio waited for Y/N to be ready, and they all headed to the Great Hall together. Harry, who was attending with Ginny, didn’t say much to Y/N and headed into the Hall without saying goodbye. Hermione, who was going with Ron, lingered behind in the foyer with Y/N.

“Go on in, you two,” Y/N said. “I’ll wait out here for Draco.”

“Are you sure?” Hermione asked, clearly almost as anxious as Y/N.

Y/N nodded and watched as Hermione and Ron headed in.

Behind her, Y/N heard someone clear their throat. She whirled around to see Draco stood there, hands clasped in front of him. He wore a black suit with an emerald green tie, the same shade as Y/N’s dress. His fingers were adorned with rings, and his hair was perfectly styled.

“You look beautiful,” he said, eyeing Y/N up from head to toe.

“Thank you,” Y/N smiled. “So do you.”

Draco smiled too and offered an arm to Y/N. “Shall we?”

The two headed into the Great Hall, where the music was playing from the live band. Friends and couples flooded the dance floor, while some sat at tables, sharing drinks and laughter.

“Want a drink?”  Y/N shouted over the music.

“I’ll get it,” said Draco, heading over to the drinks table.

Without him by her side, Y/N felt exposed and anxious. What if this was the moment he would get his revenge? What if he just never came back and left her alone? All sorts of horrible scenarios ran through Y/N’s mind until Draco returned, a drink in each hand.

“Here,” he said, handing her a cup.

“Thanks,” she replied, taking a small sip to make sure it hadn’t been messed with.

Draco, noticing this, put his drink down. “Would you like to dance?” He asked.

“Sure.”

-

Outside, the air was much cooler. It had been Y/N who suggested going for a walk to cool off. They had been dancing for a while now, and it was getting unbearably hot inside.

“So,” Draco said as the two walked side by side around the castle grounds. “What tricks do you have up your sleeve?”

“What?”

“I heard you had a plan in case this turned out to be a joke.”

“Oh, I lied,” Y/N confessed. “I’m just really hoping it’s not.”

“It isn’t.”

As the pair walked, the moon reflected brightly off of the Black Lake, giving Draco’s hair a celestial glow. Y/N’s hair blew gently in the breeze, brushing over her bare shoulders. She felt her hand brush against Draco’s.

“Okay,” Y/N said. “My turn to dare you.

Draco chuckled. "I suppose that’s only fair.”

“I dare you…” Y/N thought for a minute. “Oh, fuck it.”

She reached up on her toes and pressed her lips to his. Draco eased into the kiss, wrapping an arm around Y/N’s waist to pull her closer. He tasted like mint, and his cheek was soft under Y/N’s touch.

Eventually, the kiss was over. Draco’s arm stayed around Y/N’s waist and she leant her head on his chest, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“I’d have done it.”
