Emet Selch is drowning here. For all of his claims of disbelief, he knows we’re telling the truth.
He will someday lose the people he loves most, and commit countless horrors in the name of their restoration.
Denial is the only thing he has to hold on to.
The thing is, denial has always been his coping mechanism. This just shows that the way he behaves when faced with who we are in shb is normal for him.

And I have to wonder if it’s due to his natural op status? Even in a world where mankind controlled every aspect of the world around them using magic, Hades was considered incredibly powerful and skilled. He never seemed to struggle. He could surmount anything.
Until the Final Days, where he suddenly found himself feeling helpless for the first time (that he remembers). Where he lost the two most important people in his life, along with everything else he’s known.
And now, in a Sundered world, he is unparalleled. Eternal (and exhausted).
So when he meets an obstacle he can’t overcome—the WoL—he denies their power. He denies their identity. He denies his own hesitancy. He can’t control this situation, so he’s going to convince himself there isn’t one.
Nothing is wrong. He can handle this, just as he has everything else.
