On january 1995, 5.46am, the great hanshin-awaji earthquake 阪神淡路大震災 devestated the port-city of kobe 神戸, destroying much of its buildings and infrastructure and unveiling the substancial lack of planning in the event of a large-scale catastrophe. Today, Kobe is thriving and modern town, with big streets and an international atmosphere, but its industry and port activity never regained pre-disaster levels.
