Early Morning Thoughts

Sam Winchester had to spend his 39th birthday without his brother. Without Dean, his brother, his protector, his soulmate.

He probably didn’t intend to drink the day away. Maybe he did, guessing that it was the only way to get through the day. By himself.

He probably started with Dean’s favorite brand of beer. The brand that Sam really doesn’t like the taste of. But today it tastes like a memory.

Eventually, Sam moves on to scotch. The really cheap stuff that was all they could afford back in 2005. He thinks Dean might shake his head and laugh at how sentimental he’s being.

Sam then moves on to the good stuff. (Thanks again for that credit card, Charlie). It’s both going down more smoothly, and he’s choking on every swallow.

That’s when the tears start. He didn’t even realize he was crying so hard until the collar of his shirt was wet. He can’t do this alone. Without Dean.

Anyway, that’s what I woke up at 3:00 am thinking about. How do I think Sam spent his 39th birthday?
