At Samhain the veil between the two worlds, human and faery, is getting thin and fragile, so it’s quite simple to cross the border and to find yourself somewhere you do not really belong anymore. It’s even easier when the blood of your enemy leads you.
If Lascelles could choose, he would never come to Childermass at Samhain’s eve. But it seems that he is forever deprived of a luxury to choose.
It is not like Childermass is eager to host a trespasser from the other world, but when Samhain comes, you can only get what you deserve. Childermass takes it as a punishment for splitting his own blood irresponsibly.
(or, in other words, sometimes the best thing that can ever happen to you is the one you’re trying to avoid by all means)
