HAPPY NANAY’S DAY from the Hi Nay Podcast!

“Nay” is short for “Nanay” which means “Mom”.

Nay (IPA: /naɪ/) is what Motzie (and many other Filipinos) calls her own mom, who is one of the main inspirations for the podcast.

Mari’s Nanay is a modern babaylan / shaman, and is who she regularly calls over the phone, to tell all about her supernatural exploits. Her Nanay and Lola (grandma) taught her everything she knows.

Mari’s Nanay plays a big role in recent special episode, Remind Me To Tell You Later - Batibat, where Nanay is called to a rich family’s mansion in Palawan to remove a harmful nightmare spirit called a Batibat, which kills people in their sleep.

Happy May everyone!

We have a lot in the works we’re excited to share with you. If we could dedicate all our time to Hi Nay we would!

(but unfortunately… Day jobs)

That said, here’s a sneak peek for a fantastic piece by another amazing artist.

A portrait. But of who?

If you’re not sure if you want to get into the full Hi Nay experience yet, consider listening to our special standalone episodes, Remind Me To Tell You Later!

They’re vignettes of protagonist Mari’s experiences with Filipino horrors, and lean more heavily onto Philippine mythology and folklore.

The first two episodes of RMTTYL are available in full! The latter two have their excerpts up on Youtube and Podbean, with full episodes exclusive to Patrons.

If we get to 500 subscribers on Youtube by April 29, we’ll post the full third RMTTYL, Madre, to the public.

If you’re interested in learning about Filipino supernatural creatures, check out the RMTTYL special episodes!

There’s a playlistof all episodes so far on Youtube.

You can also find them on our Podbean! Please note the content warnings, and enjoy!
