The Berlin Wall 1986. The address of the large building behind The Wall is Stresemannstraße 128-130, and it now houses the Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz.

Berlin August 1986. The Berlin Wall had a positive side to it for some West Berliners. A traffic-free cycle path right across the city.

East German train running through Savignyplatz S-Bahnhof in 1986. The engine type is a Russian class 132 “Ludmilla” diesel, number 132 466. The livery was normally dark red with cream detailing. The coaches were dark green, with the ‘DR’ logo on them, for ‘Deutsche Reichsbahn’.

West Berlin June 1986. The signs say: Alt Berlin - `AM ZOO’ - InterCity Restaurant. Words used about this historic catering facility at the Bahnhof Zoo include: uncomfortable chairs, nice view, rude service, overcooked food. The word ‘grubby’ may also have been mentioned.

West Berlin. Aficionados of Berlin should be able to tell when and where in Berlin this is. I have previously posted a shot of the buildings which once filled the gap beyond, which can be seen here.

West Berlin 1986. Kranzler corner, and it looks like the rain is finally stopping. I’d spent the whole day taking shots on 1/60th of a second at f4.

West Berlin 1986. A rainy day in June. No coffee on the Kudamm for me that day! The Nikon and Berliner Kindl signage on the opposite building is interesting, anyway.

West Berlin 1986. A news kiosk near the Hotel Am Zoo, selling all the papers, Der Tagesspiegel, Die Welt, Bayernkurier, and in the top right corner, the paper I would buy, The International Herald Tribune. Available all over Europe and Africa, I bought this U.S. English-language paper on all my travels. It is still going now, under the name of The New York Times.

West Berlin Kurfürstendamm 1986. The sign says “Geben sie mie bitte eine Spende”. He needed a donation towards the next can of ‘Berliner Kindl’ beer.
