PAIRING :: Huang Renjun x Reader

SUMMARY ::As Renjun struggles to find a muse for his final series of artworks, you dance your way into his heart and fill the void to make him whole. Of course, life is never fair and when he realizes just how deep his feelings for you run, he has to accept that you might not feel the same way.

GENRE :: fluff, angst, one-sided love, artist!AU, artist!Renjun, dancer!Reader, college/university!AU.

WARNINGS ::none.

WORD COUNT ::7.4k

A/N ::This one was inspired by this edit made by @hoeforau , who helped me bounce ideas for how this story could turn out. I definitely enjoyed writing it and as someone who’s done art in high school, I can confirm that creative block is bitch and a half. Either way, enjoy!

The first time Renjun puts a brush to his canvas, he doesn’t know what to do.

It’s a classic case of a creative block, where his mind decides to put up a wall against anything that could possibly help him. The white fabric stares back at him as he thinks and think and thinks until he’s not sure he’s thinking anymore. Something, anything, just a sliver of inspiration to kickstart what he hopes to be his best work yet.

Well, it would be his best work if he could think of something.

The project is a masterworks series, which will be displayed in the annual showcase at the end of the year. To have your work exhibited in one of the biggest art galleries in the city is a massive honour, not to mention the attention that it draws. It’s a big deal to many, too big of a deal for some who end up losing precious hours of sleep to craft fine details into their canvases. Of course, an artist’s muse can strike at any hour and one must be ready to embrace it, but it’s a fickle thing that knows no end once it appears. The fourth years have barely begun to feel the pressure, but Renjun naturally worries too much and feels the need to begin before anyone else has the chance. Call it competitive painting, so to speak. He tries to be ahead of the game before it can be ahead of him.

Once again, that works only if he has an idea, which he doesn’t.
