I’m so ready for Wakui to debunk what I’ve written out because next chapter of GL will just be Shin’s backstory lol.

It’s neat that Grandpa Sano and Mikey have the same kanji for their names.

Sano Mansaku: 佐野
Sano Manjiro: 佐野次郎

Sort of makes sense in a way because Mikey’s more attuned to martial arts, like his grandfather. If that hints on anything between their relationship at all.

I don’t know what this means for Shinichiro tho.

Sano Makoto: 佐野
Sano Shinichiro: 佐野一郎

Oof it didn’t really hit me until you brought up that Makoto could’ve cheated on Sakurako between conceiving Mikey and her illness/death… (The small age gap between Mikey and Emma makes this really plausible.) Yeah, from Wakui’s offhand remark about Makoto, I’m leaning towards the cheating theory too tbh.

This would most certainly have affected Shinichiro. We don’t know how expressive / non-expressive Makoto was to gage the level of influence he had, but regardless Shinichiro having daddy issues is entirely natural and really interesting to explore! You’re right, he could’ve picked up his Casanova traits from his dad

About their names—Shinichiro (真一郎) literally translates to ‘Makoto[‘s] First Son’. Sure, it’s kinda traditional naming custom but it made me wonder if perhaps Makoto was especially proud of Shinichiro when he was born, and therefore named him as such. Would this be another layer to Shinichiro’s relationship to his dad?

Hello! Right? The small age gap between Mikey and Emma bothered me because if I add up the timelines, Emma was born in November 1991 so Makoto would’ve been with Karen somewhere around March 1991 (or earlier). I can’t tell for sure if Sakurako was still alive in 1991 but even if she wasn’t, Makoto was really sus.

Before I learned there was a Sano Family Tree, I kept on joking to myself before that Shin must’ve had some hidden daddy issues when his father had a kid with a different woman and then disappeared. What are the odds now, though? Maybe, Shin’s alleged weakness to women and 20 rejections weren’t just random info in the character book after all lol.

Makoto’s First Son.

I was staring at the kanji for too long that I actually didn’t realize that. I’m mind-blown!!! ヽ(°〇°)ノ

Given how Wakui places importance in naming his characters and that he even revealed the parents’ names (surprisingly), I think you’re right! He must’ve been proud of Shinichiro. Maybe, this implies that they could’ve have had a good relationship until he realized what kind of person his father actually was…..

(The kanji for truth just really stings now. This is a sad hc oof)
