#i love the idea of danny bonding with alfred
Danny Fenton is Bruce Wayne’s son AU, but Alfred is the one to discover Danny first.
Idk how or why Alfred would discover Danny first, maybe a ghost scuffle takes Danny too far from home and Alfred, out on errands, spots him in Fenton form and is like, “Another secret child of Bruce’s???”
I just want Alfred to be the one to bright light of this situation!!
Danny works at the grocery store Alfred frequents. Alfred is a regular and Danny gives good tips on what kinds of junkfood he can keep stock for teenage/young adult guys. So they get decently acquainted and it’s obvious to Alfred that Danny has been through way more shit than he’s letting on. Danny reminds him of Bruce so much that he takes quite a liking to Danny. It’s even a bit uncanny to how much Danny seems like a copy of Bruce at the same age
It would be like a 18/19 year old Danny, freshly moved to Gotham and trying to make rent kinda of scenario. Danny offhandedly mentions how he’ll have to cut back on groceries one month and then Alfred offers him a job of doing some grounds keeping on the Manner. Danny’s decently built so Alfred gives him some more heavier duty tasks that he himself can’t really do anymore and Danny is thrilled
And so at least once a day every week Danny heads up to Wayne manor and works with Alfred all day. The pay is fantastic (Alfred shushed him when Danny eyed the large stack of cash warily) and he gets free lunch and dinner. He’s not a bad cook either so Danny will also help make Dinner sometimes. So ya it’s just Danny and Alfred vibing. They get along fantastically and Danny looks foreword to seeing him. Alfred reminds him of Clockwork and somehow he manages to make tea taste like the best thing in the world
Eventually Danny mentions he found out he was adopted when he turned 18. The adoption records are nearly blank with the only clue being they found him in Gotham. He didn’t have much going for him in Amity Park (Fentons shut down the portal or something) so he moved to Gotham for the cheap rent and to see if he could find anything. A shot in the dark really because he has quite literally no information. He kinda shrugs it off and says he actually likes Gotham quite a bit and will probably stay for a while despite not finding anything
This would cause Alfred to consider that maybe Danny is Bruce’s biological kid. Danny said he had both parents so Alfred assumed that there was no way he could be related to Bruce. The adoption changes that and Alfred grabs a DNA sample from Danny and tests it just to see. Low and behold the results come back positive and Danny is Bruce’s biological son. The resemblance isn’t so uncanny anymore.
Alfred has no clue who the mother is though. It’s definitely not Talia (compared Danny’s DNA to Damian’s) and Danny’s to old to be a product of Selina and Bruce. So Alfred keeps it so himself for a while. He trusts Danny but it’s best to try and find out who the mother is before telling Bruce or Danny.
(Honestly it could be like just a fling Bruce had years ago or something. I’m not really sure.)
One night instead of Danny taking a to go box back to his apartment with dinner, Alfred invites him eat with family. Danny objects quite a bit (“Alfred I have mud all over my jeans and my shirt has holes and some chemical stains I am not ready to have dinner with Gotham’s Sugar Daddy”) but eventually gives in (“Danny it will be fine, Master Tim will probably be in the same clothes he was wearing Monday” “It’s Thursday?” “Exactly”).
And thus begins Danny’s integration into the Wayne family. Dinner goes well and eventually Danny finds himself eating with the Wayne’s on a regular basis. Bruce is concerned at first with Danny finding out their side activities but Alfred assured him Danny won’t find out unless they tell him. Hell Danny could walk into the Batcave itself and just think it’s some weird rich guy thing (Vlad had skewed his perception of normal rich guy and Sam has a whole ass bowling alley. Danny has a low bar) and Alfred knows this based on previous conversations about the rich people Danny has encountered.
So ya that’s about as far as I’ve thought about. I’d be down for Danny actually knowing they’re vigilantes for a long time (“Red Hood and Jason have the same energy and if Red Hood is a former Robin and Jason is Bruce’s son and Bruce happens to have other kids that line up with the Robins then ya you guys are the Bats”). Everyone thinks they’re fantastic at hiding it and Danny is a tad oblivious but really Jason reeks of ectoplasm but Danny can’t tell them he knows that they’re the vigilantes because how is he suppose to explain that he can tell Jason reeks of ectoplasm without revealing he’s half ghost.
Oh and for Bruce finding out Danny’s his son Id say Tim was doing a regular maintenance check on the equipment in the Batcave and stumbles on Danny’s DNA being put into the system and checks it out. Nothing really dramatic, mostly just confirms everyone’s suspicions. Next dinner (after words gets past through the family that Danny is actually Bruce’s son) Alfred breaks it down for everyone. Danny’s torn between “well that makes sense” and “why didn’t you tell me sooner??”. After a bit of a streak of upset Danny nothing really changes except Danny is around way more often. He doesn’t want official recognition of being a Wayne (“Fame sucks and I would sooner die than deal with reporters”) but would still like to hang out and get to know his biological family more. (“Okay since I’m now part of the family can I do at least one night of patrol with you guys? Yes yes I know you guys are vigilantes. It would be a great bonding experience! Yes I’ve known for a while. Does tonight work for you guys?”)
