#illustrated calendar

this one is the art for the first month of the calendar i just finished up, it’s the first in a series of drawings of inner worlds and dream scapes 
this piece carries a lot for me, it represents healing through greif and mourning - but especially a refusal to let pain and trauma steal the beauty of childhood and powerful memories 
for so many years for me, it was impossible to hold any identification with my past and my memories felt like a strangers stories in some book i barely read, my being was - and in many ways still is fractured by trauma
but i’ve been lucky enough in my own healing to find ways back, to reclaim my past and i think there is something really powerful in taking back our own experiences washed over by pain
