Pretty in anything darling

Lil writing wip thingy about Mary and Clive, much fluff.

“Well what do you think?”, her timid voice asked.

The soft smile returned to his face as he turned around to see her in the beautiful dress she had picked out. It was off a beautiful midnight blue elegantly shimmering in the light. Her fingers fidgeted with the new ellbow long gloves. The fabric of her dress. Brows pulled into a miniscule frown.

Ah… he knew her in and out. Knew exactly what to say.

“You look perfect in anything you wear Mary.”

A bright blush blossomed on her cheeks. Surprising her was a beautiful sight. These moments were rare. She blinked once before a big grin spread on her face which she quickly hid in her hands.

“That’s not true.”, she giggled. “You only want to leave faster.”

Her laughter was addicting. He found himself join in before he knew it. Taking her gloved hands in his, revealing her rosy cheeks. The touch made her lean forward and their foreheads touched.

“I am speaking the truth, you are always pretty.”, he chuckled. “I don’t need to see the other dresses.”

Still giggling and eyes closed, he had a perfect view of her. Could take in her beautiful smile… her long lashes twitching from laughter, her pretty lips pulled into a smile, feel her vibrate against him from all the laughing.

Her eyelids fluttered open and she looked directly into his eyes. “You flirt.”, she said jokingly.

He couldn’t look away. He found himself staring deep into her eyes. Those pretty dark pools of light. Her gaze met his and it was as if the world stopped for a second when her expression softened and she smiled back gently.

His knees went weak.

Oh how badly he wanted to kiss her at this moment.

Before he knew it his hand was on her cheek and she sighed into his touch, closing her eyes in a blissful moment.

“Pretty.”, he mumbled, the usual snarky reply stuck in his throat. She looked down shyly, her lips still curled into a timid smile.

“What’s up with you today?”, she asked softly.

I realized again how much I have fallen for you.

She looked up and her dark eyes continued to draw him in. He found himself at loss for words. Their noses touched. Eyes shimmering with unspoken words. Her lips parted slightly and he found himself mirroring her.

“…Not much.”, he replied softly. Closing his mouth.

There was too much on the line. He could never risk loosing her because of what he felt. It could wait. He was happy like this.

Her eyes dulled for a brief second. He could have also imagined it. His thumb caressed her cheek. She melted into his touch, nuzzling into his palm. Her lips accidentally grazing his skin. His lips accidentally touching her hairline as he pulled her close into a hug. He was happy like this…

She was warm. Warm and familiar in his arms. He burrowed his face into her hair. She was his place to always come back to. He couldn’t loose that.
