Tokyo, Japan - Imperial Palace (皇居) in Tokyo which is also the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. It consists of park areas which include palace buildings like the private residence of the imperial family. This picture is around 100 years old.

The Empress is a devoted mother, and hardly ever parted from her four little girls. The little Grand Duchesses have therefore seen a great deal of the world, especially the Princess Olga, who has accompanied her father and mother on their visits to France and England. 

Though the Czar is the richest sovereign in the world, the home life of the Imperial couple is very simple, and almost without ceremony. The Empress may appear cold and stately toward strangers–in private she is brimming over with good nature and mischievous humour. But at no moment is it possible to mistake the underlying strength and earnestness of her character. The Czarina exactly suits her husband, and a happy family life cannot be imagined.
