What is it?

You know how the Tumblr Customizer gives you neat little fields to fill in for styles and content? It’s kind of like that but for custom pages (for the content). Pages with custom layout only take raw code. So we’re essentially creating a makeshift back-end and have the page pull data from the spreadsheet to automatically generate the content based on an HTML template.

Should you do this for every page? No. Definitely not. It’s only useful for pages that have a lot of content data within the same repeatable HTML structures. Like multi character pages or similar.

Benefits?

  • Easy to edit especially for those without much HTML knowledge.
  • Reduces code clutter and therefore the risk of breaking the page by pasting things in the wrong place.
  • Saves time digging through code & copy/pasting the same templates over and over.
  • If you know what you’re doing: spreadsheets become portable to any page theme and you never have to re-enter the content into the page again.

Downsides?

  • Slightly slower load times??? (unsure of the details)
  • Harder initial set up.
  • Tumblr customize preview breaks (don’t worry, just the preview.)
  • Potential security risk if you have open write access and use template variables that allow the use of code. (so be careful with who you give write access!!)

Page theme examples using spreadsheets: mirror images, deja vu,succulent

Succulentpage theme uses a different method that works too but is worse/harder to implement and less flexible. You can read about it here.

Made this awhile back but decided to post it; a Role-Swap AU where Kaycee, Luke, Bone Lord, and Lonely Wizard are Scrybes while the actual Scrybes are a bunch of Challengers.

LUCK-3 (pronounce Lucky) is Luke, the Scrybe of Technology, he has a gambling mechanic since most of his stuff depends on dumb luck- hence why P03 hates him so much.

Kaycee is the Scrybe of Beasts, don’t be fooled! She just looks human. Mechanic is still the sam involving blood sacrifice n such though she tends to throw in new things such as totems, more of an experimental touch to add some sort of flare onto her game. She and Leshy/Lesli get along very well, close friends!

Bone Lord is the Scrybe of the Dead, quite the intimidating figure from his mere appearance. Mechanic is also the same involving bones, not much of a change. He’s terrified of Grimora because she just came out of nowhere, started digging up new Graves on HIS Land of the Dead, and he’s too scared to ask her to leave ever since he saw her bench press a whole coffin.

Lonely Wizard is the Scrybe of Magicks, a funky little guy who is REALLY powerful in means of manipulating its surroundings and just overall being the classic OP funky Wizard who wants to have fun. Mechanic is the same but LW is able to change the game rules whenever it likes, even mixing up card themes as well, it’s entire thing is chaotic. Magnificus still has nightmares due to the amounts of psychic damage LW has caused onto him.

Funny enough, the Scrybes here are really good friends while the Challengers are having a total gamer moment aka trying to kill eachother for the umpteenth time.

I have some designs in mind for the Scrybes underlings, lots of design changes! So I’ll work on that soon :]
